Hey, guys! I just got back from a screening of 300, which many of you have already seen.
I, for one, was somewhat disappointed by the movie. The trailers made it look so good, and don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. It moved somewhat slow, there was way too much violence, and some of the scenes were just sickening. Also, did anyone notice that there was all this blood flying everywhere, but none of it got on Leonidas or any of the other soldiers?
Let me explain. First of all, don't call me underaged, but some scenes were sick and unnecesary. Like the scene with Xerxes and the humpback- did any of you notice that some of the girls were kissing each other and making disgusting grunting noises? And the scene with the Oracle was totally not needed. They didn't have to show that odd dance and the half-nude girl. All they had to say was the old people witht the screwed-up faces said the war was a bad idea.
Also, some violence was way too over-the-top. I counted, there were 3 head decapitations, countless limb decapatations and slices, two seven-year old children forced to beat each other up (with a staggering amount of blood), 5 scenes of greusome animals, 2 scenes of a billion flying arrows, 5 scenes of colorful words used to insult other characters example "This will not be quick and you will not enjoy this", and 1 sword into a guy's family jewels. And that monster guy that was shackled, then forced to attack Leonidas- IW! I understand that that is what war is like, but do they need to show it in excuruciating detail?
I'd give this movie a B+. Good movie, but the director (Zach Snyder) should have tried a little harder. By the way, I actually liked Zach's directorial debut of DAWN OF THE DEAD.
