This thread explains the features of this vBulletin forum and how to use them. Also included are lists of ways to make your posts look better, and useful links to outside websites which might be useful to you here. Rather than explain all the most obvious features, such as posting messages, or viewing forums, which we do expect 99% of our users to know, we have concentrated on the more advanced features and settings of this forum. This thread will hopefully contain most of the answers to these, but since nobody knows everything, we may miss something out, in which case post what it is here and it will be added if its important.

==Forum Settings==

These control how you are able to view the forum. Various settings can be edited by you from your own personal control panel. Everything in the forum settings section can be edited from this page:- http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/profile.php?do=editoptions 1. vCard-Imagine your vCard as an internet business card. It contains whatever personal information you add about yourself, such as your name, email, address, phone number, place of work, etc. It is possible to download your vCard via the forums, but you might not want this. So if you don't want people downloading it, you may tick the box at the top of your edit options page in the section saying "Allow vCard Download". Once that is done, your vCard will be completely private. Although if you want to allow it's download, make sure the box is unchecked.2. Messaging & Notification-
Receive Email - From this section, you can decide who is able to send you emails. As custom, both boxes here will be ticked. This means that administrators and members will be able to send you emails. If you don't want one or both of these groups to be able to send you emails, un-check both boxes.
Default Thread Subscription Mode - Whenever you post in a new thread, you are automatically subscribed to that thread. The custom setting means that you will have no email notification telling you when someone else has posted in that topic. If you want to be notified, look at the box beside "Default Thread Subscription Mode". You can choose to be notified instantly, daily, or weekly.3. Thread Display Options-
These determine how you will view messages posted on the forums.
Visible Post Elements- You are able to show or hide avatars, signatures, and images posted on the forums. You may wish to do this if your computer has a slow connection, or if you just don't want the clutter of dozens of images on your screen, getting in the way or the actual post content. By un-checking the three boxes here, you are able to to hide all avatars, signature images, and other images posted in posts.
Thread Display Mode- The thread display modes available are: 1. Linear Mode (Oldest First)- In this mode, posts are displayed chronologically from oldest to newest. Posts are shown in a flat mode so that many posts can be viewed simultaneously. 2. Linear Mode (Newest First) - This is the same as the above mode, except that posts are ordered in an opposite way (newest first).
Number of Posts to Show Per Page- As far as I can tell, you are only able to use the forum default, which is 15 posts per page.
Default Thread Age Cut Off- This allows you to choose which threads you want to view, and which ones you want to hide. From the box beside "Default Thread Age Cut Off", you can choose the threads you want to see. Threads older than the age you specify will not be shown.4. Date & Time Options-
Time Zone- The forum is set to display GMT time, although can correct the time settings from this part of the control panel to the correct time for the part of the world you live in. In addition, you may also select the option to allow for daylight savings in your part of the world.
Start of the Week- Different parts of the world use different days as the start of their week. From here, you cal select the correct day for you.5. Message Editor Interface-
There are three interface boxes you are able to use on these forums. The first and most simple is a plain text box. Nothing more than that. The second is more advanced and contains more controls. The third is similar, but allows you to see your finished post as you type it. Depending on your connection speed, you may need to choose a more simple editor.
==Posting==
The following should help you out while posting and are frequently asked questions on the forums. The basics have been missed out here, as it is expected that this will already be known by almost everybody.

6. Adding a poll to your post-

If you want to create a poll, you simply need to click on post new topic, as if you were simply going to post a new topic. In the "Additional Options" section of the post page, you will see that it says "Post a Poll". Below that is a box you need to tick, and beside that is another box where you can type in the number of options in your poll. The maximum is ten.

7. Clickable words-

A lot of people want to know how to do this (http:///). Simply copy the code below, closing the space.

[ URL=""]text goes here

8. Clickable Images-

For example, the images in my signature lead to other pages when you click them. To do this yourself, copy the text below and close the spaces.

[ URL=""][ IMG][/IMG]

9. Editor Modes-

There are two editor modes on this forum. One allows you to see the post as it will appear, as you type it. The other displays the post in basic form, and you will see the code for anything you make bold, a different colour, or align center, etc... At the top right side of your post box is a button saying "Switch Editor Mode". You can change the mode you use from there.

10. Post Box Size-

Beside the editor mode button are another two buttons. They allow you to increase and decrease the size of your post box.

11. Miscellaneous Options-

Located below your post box, this section allows you to show your signature or hide it in a particular post, disable all smiles in your post, and parse links in the thread. Note that this only affects that one post, it doesn't cover the whole forum.

==Frequently Asked Questions==

12. ==I have a complaint/problem. What do I do?==

If you have a complaint or problem about a user/s, post/s or thread/s, don't shout about it on the forum, report it to the staff. A moderator will then deal with the problem for you. Simply click on the report button below the user's post, fill in the box which asks why you are sending the report, and click 'send report'. Please remember to use the report feature correctly and don't abuse it.

You report a post it when:

-(possible) Flame War.

-Spamming

-You want to alert a moderator about a user that is out of control.
-If you see a member who is underage.

The report feature is not for:

-If you want a member banned, cause you don't like him

-Asking questions about the game, or about other things.

13. ==Avatars==

Most people like to have a good looking avatar, but there are a few things to remember while choosing your avatar.

First, avatars should be no larger than 150 by 150 pixels and the file size should be no greater than 20KB. This is a general rule that applies to all the forums here. This is because avatars with large dimensions distort the forum page, and large file sizes are bad news for people who don't have the fastest connection.

Avatars can be changed and edited from this page (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/profile.php?do=editavatar). Note than you can upload your own as well as choosing from Miniclip's own gallery.

http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/profile.php?do=editavatar

For more information, please read this thread.

http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=85

If you are not a staff member you may NOT use a staff avatar.

14. ==Signatures==

Like with avatars, similar rules also apply when choosing a signature. The signature rules are simple. No signatures can be larger than 400 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall. If they are, they will be removed without warning. Its as simple as that.

Edit your signature here:
http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/profile.php?do=editsignature

15. ==PM's==

PMs on the Miniclip Club Penguin forums have been disabled. A lot of people ask about them, so if you are wondering why they don't exist, it is because they have been switched off. They won't be coming back.

16. ==Referrals==

On the sign up form, there is a space where you add in the name of the user who told you about Miniclip/got you to join the forum. If somebody fills in your name there, you get a referral on your profile. So you having 16, for example, means that 16 people seem to have signed up here because of you.

17. ==Becoming a Mod==

This is something a lot of people ask about. It simply goes like this. To be a mod you must make good posts, not spam, be polite and helpful to everybody, and generally try to contribute to the smooth running of the forum. Don't ask to become a mod. If the admins think you are right for the job, they will email you.

18. ==Can I get a forum like this?==

Yep, you sure can. You need to download the forums' source files from the vBulletin website (http://www.vbulletin.com/). However, you have to pay to download the files, so you may not want to spend the money. For a free forum, check out phpBB.com (http://www.phpbb.com/) or Galacforums.com (http://www.galacforums.com/).

19. ==Get Miniclip Games on your own website==

Should you want Miniclip games on your own website, check out this page, and copy the code from it onto your own site.

==Some General Posting Guidelines==

20. ==Posting a new thread==

Everyone is welcome to post new threads, but before you do, check your thread is ready to be posted. This simply involves using your common sense. If you think the thread is suitable and makes sense, and isn't breaking the rules, then you can post it.

21. ==Asking a Question==

If you have a sensible question about something on the forum or one of the games then the forum is the place to ask it. There will always be someone more than happy to help you out. But before you ask your question, make sure it isn't something which has been asked a thousand times before. You don't want to be asking something which has already been answered in one of the stickies, do you?

22. ==Useless threads==

Simply don't make them. Threads should NOT be created for no reason. If you want to make a thread, make sure you have a useful and relevant subject to post about. All too often players create threads for no reason, which end up turning into post-a-thons, spamfests or flame wars. Such threads will be locked. So please, help keep the forum free of clutter by only posting useful and relevant threads.

23. ==Flame Wars==

This is when two or more users begin arguing about something. More often than not, it can turn violent, and people end up seriously falling out. Its common knowledge that flame wars are against the rules, and to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the forums, it is advised that you don't bring your disputes onto the forums. If you see people arguing, it is advised that you don't get involved yourself. That usually only makes the situation worse.

==Suggestions and other useful things==

24. ==Free Image Hosts==

Here is a list of free on-line image hosts for anyone who has a picture they want to show off.

http://www.uploadit.org/

http://www.imageshack.us/

http://www.walagata.com/
http://www.domaindlx.com/
http://www.photobucket.com/
http://www.upurs.us (One of RFS' sites) (http://www.upurs.us/)

25. ==Shrinking and re-sizing pictures==

Do you have a picture you would like re-sized? This is really very simple to do. There are many different programs you can download off the web to resize images, you might already have one on your computer, but if you don't, and you have never resized anything before, a link that is often recommended by members here is...

http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

This site couldn't be easier. Simply fill in the re-size form, click resize, and you're done.

Tetsu, if I wanted to re-post my fan game guide, which forum would it go in? I can't seem to find a suitable forum.

I originally made it on the Miniclip forums, and wanted to copy it into these forums. ;)

Hey, like on the Miniclip forums, your guide was great. However, would you or another staff member mind if I pointed out a few problems? I don't want to make anyone mad or feel insulted. If it's alright with you, I will edit my post. :)

1. Frequently Asked Questions
12. I have a complain/problem. What do I do?

You stated, "complain" instead of complaint.

2. The other displays the post in basic form, and you will see the code for anything you make bold, a different colour, or align center, ect...

"ect..." should be "etc..."

3. 11. Miscellaneous Options-

Located below your post box, this section allows you to show your signature or hide it in a particular post, disable all smileys in your post, and parse links in the thread.

"smileys" should be "smilies"

4. ==PMS==

Just the name... Maybe the 's' should be lowercase and add an apostrophe after the 'm'. I don't need to go further. :P

5. 20. ==Posting a new thread==

Everyone is welcome to post new threads, but before you do, check your thread is ready to be posted. This simply involves using your common sence

"Sence" should be "sense"

6. 22. ==Useless threads==

Simply don't make them. Threads should NOT be created for no reason. If you want to make a thread, make sure you have a useful and relevant subject to post about. All to often players create theads for no reason

"Theads" should be "threads"

7. 24. ==Free Image Hosts==

Here are a list of free on-line image hosts for anyone who has a picture they want to show off.

The phrase "are a list" should be "are lists".

I'm sorry for critisising your post/help thread. :p

About that part of the guide... I don't know how to put this, but is there still a set time limit for editing in a poll? Recall on the original Miniclip forums how if you created a thread, but didn't add a poll within the first five minutes of your creation of the thread that you were no longer given the option to add a poll to the post? Is that still the case on these forums?

Also, I edited my post if you didn't see. :P

I think you can do it within 5 mins as long as you are still the only post there.

I edited a title after creating it, and it worked. I don't know if it's the same for polls though.

Yes, you can change thread names, but I'm guessing you can edit polls too. Basically the same thing when it comes to title.

Yea, I was unsure about the polls. However, I was unaware of the option to change the thread title. :P

EDIT: But it's probably the same case for the polls if it works with changing thread titles.

EDIT: I just noticed that BiggyP added a poll to his poster of the month thread. So I'm guessing there is no time constraint then.

It is a lot simplier to check a box saying disable private messaging than going through all the templetes removing all the needed links.

I believe RFS or Ben has already took out the link to private messages in the top right corner as that is the main misleading one.

On other forums private messaging is wanted, so the PM feature is made so it can be easily switched on and off. I don't want to go into the reasons why it was disabled here, but it's a high up decision and any petitioning won't help matters.

Bigger is better in some case. Though it's still 150x150. I guess he just copied and pasted it from the old guide on Miniclip, where it's actually 180x180.

13. ==Avatars==

Avatars can be changed and edited from Note than you can upload your own as well as choosing from Miniclip's own gallery.

For more information, please read this thread.

If you are not a staff member you may NOT use a staff avatar.

14. ==Signatures==

Like with avatars, similar rules also apply when choosing a signature. The signature rules are simple. No signatures can be larger than 400 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall. If they are, they will be removed without warning. Its as simple as that. If you want a clickable signature picture, you may use this code.

vBulletin website ("]

Edit your signature here:

15. ==Private Messages==

Private Messages (PMs) on the Miniclip Club Penguin forums have been disabled. A lot of people ask about them, so if you are wondering why they don't exist, it is because they have been switched off. They won't be coming back.

16. ==Referrals==

On the sign up form, there is a space where you add in the name of the user who told you about Miniclip/got you to join the forum. If somebody fills in your name there, you get a referral on your profile. So you having 16, for example, means that 16 people seem to have signed up here because of you.

17. ==Becoming A Moderator==

This is something a lot of people ask about. It simply goes like this. To be a mod you must make good posts, not spam, be polite and helpful to everybody, and generally try to contribute to the smooth running of the forum. Don't ask to become a mod. If the admins think you are right for the job, they will email you.

18. ==Can I get a forum like this?==

Yep, you sure can. You need to download the forums' source files from the . However, you have to pay to download the files, so you may not want to spend the money. For a free forum, check out phpBB.com (http://www.phpbb.com/) or Galacforums.com (http://www.galacforums.com/).

19. ==Get Miniclip games on your own website.==

Should you want Miniclip games on your own website, check out this page, and copy the code from it onto your own site.

==Some General Posting Guidelines==

20. ==Posting A New Thread==

Everyone is welcome to post new threads, but before you do, check your thread is ready to be posted. This simply involves using your common sense. If you think the thread is suitable and makes sense, and isn't breaking the rules, then you can post it.

21. ==Asking A Question==

22. [U]==Useless Threads==

Simply don't make them. Threads should NOT be created for no reason. If you want to make a thread, make sure you have a useful and relevant subject to post about. All too often players create threads for no reason, which end up turning into post-a-thons, spam fests or flame wars. Such threads will be locked. So please, help keep the forum free of clutter by only posting useful and relevant threads.

23. ==Flame Wars==

==Suggestions and other useful things==

24. ==Free Image Hosting Sites==

Here is a list of free on-line image hosts for anyone who has a picture they want to show off.

25. ==Shrinking And Resizing Pictures==

If you don't wish to use this, you could always order at The Official Resizing Shop (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=64790).

Above is a revised version of the first post that I updated myself. I did things like change grammar, spelling, and give more official names (ex: moderator instead of mod).

I have a question and since you said this is the place to post them, I will. ;)
How do you post images in posts? (Obviously not personal pictures)

If I shouldn't have asked this or this has been posted before, I'm sorry! :O I searched "Posting Pictures" and I didn't see any threads which answered my question so I posted it here myself. :)

There are a few ways to do it.

If it is on your computer, you must upload it onto an image hosting site of your choice. Then, most sites should give you an "IMG code" for forums and message boards. Copy and paste it into here.

If it is from a website, find the url of the image. Then, locate the picture with a sun and mountains. It's on the top, where you can choose the color of your post and stuff like that. Put the url into there.

Thank you. :) How do you find the URL though? Oh and what programme do you use to upload your own picture?

To find the url of an image on a website, you can right click it, and on Firefox and Chrome, there should be a button along the lines of, "Copy link url". On IE, it is easier to save the image to your computer and upload it.

You do not use a program to upload images online. You go to a website, such as www.tinypic.com

Ok, but how do you get the picture onto your post/thread?

-Upload your picture you want to post on tinypic.com
-Copy the link that says "URL for forums/message boards" (something like that)
-Paste the picture into the post.

No it doesn't. It's in the rules, Draco says he's been banned twice and he still got to be administrator. But if you really want to, getting banned again still isn't a good idea. ;)

► "I was banned! Now I can never be a Moderator!": People make mistakes. Would you believe it if I told you I've been banned before here? Really? How about TWICE. You can always make a comeback if you learn from mistakes. Anyone can be a good user.

Direct quote from the rules.

No, it does not. Our very own "Dragminister" was banned before. ► "I was banned! Now I can never be a Moderator!": People make mistakes. That is a quote from our beloved Draco. Check out the rules to see more FAQs

I have a question(isn't this how all the posts on this thread start?)--Where would I post a question about whether or not the idea for my Club/Team follows the guidelines? I've read the stickies, but I'm not really sure about it quite yet.

Posting it right in the Forum/Website Support & Ideas (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12) section will work. :)
