How much does it cost for a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread? I am writing a paper and it takes place in London... and the children have to go to the store before the huge blizzard to get milk and bread...

Well, a pound is worth about two dollars, so just do the math.

A £5 will do it.
Make sure you get the GBP (£) symbol instead of a Euro (€) symbol.
