View Full Version : A forum where we all leave each other voice messages

Now, I know you're all brimming with questions, so here are some details:

I am planning on having this forum two ways:

1. Record messages on your own and post them
2. Set up a hotline where people leave you messages.

Option #1 is pretty straightforward. You record a message on a voice recorder and upload it to an online site such as 4shared.net.

Option #2 is different in that you will want to avoid giving out your phone number all over the internet. Therefore, your hotline will be a K7 number. K7 is a service where you call a number and it emails a recording of the voicemail. Our British users may use a service called Flextel, which will redirect to a K7 number.

When the receiver uploads the file, they will make sure to change the extension to hide the phone number. I also found a service called Bluff My Call which can allow the sender to change their phone number and voice.

All services mentioned (4shared, K7, Flextel, Bluff My Call) are absolutely free.

This may sound complicated, but I am sure you will get it with time.

What can you record? Anything! The OP who set up the hotline may ask for something specific or hold a contest (I may do the same), or you can record messages for everyone to enjoy.

I don't like this idea. Not all of us have a computer microphone or a cell phone.

Like Link, I don't really like this idea. Even though you can hide your phone number, there will still be people nervous about using sites like those. And also, what's the point of sending a voice message when it's easier to just respond on the forums with text?

I honestly don't think that this would be very popular. Some of us don't want to share our voice (like me), some of us don't have cell phones/computer microphones, or some of us don't want to take time doing this.

If you don't have a voice recorder, ignore option 1 or set up a K7 account, leave a message to it, and then upload it.

If you are nervous about doing something like this, you can set up redirect numbers, or even use Bluff My Call to disguise your voice.

Cool idea, but what happened to that thing in the summer where
we called and left messages? Did I miss it or did it just die out?

^ I ran it for about a week, then I kind of stopped uploading messages. I was looking for a more convenient way, but I couldn't find one.

If this doesn't work out, I'll try that again.
