Original thread: http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=21442
Second thread: http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=37484
Been a long time since I've done one of these, but I figured it would be a nice addition to the forums... especially since we've been around for so LONG now! A lot of the people who got curious in the older threads are no longer a part of this forum, so there's a whole new community of people who might be a little curious as to how things are, were, or worked at one point in time.
There's a few things that I ask though,
- If it's something minuscule that's already covered in the Rules/Stickies don't ask it.
- Once the thread picks up, please browse it to see if your question has been asked.
- Don't ask why so-and-so was banned/permabanned. The Ban List is perma-dead but most likely the person wanted a username change.
- Don't ask me anything private, obviously, like things from the staff forum.
- Finally, I will check this thread at least once a day, if the unanswered questions are starting to pile up please wait for me to get through the others before you ask.
If something's a little too risky or personal I reserve the right to not answer the question, just so you know. I don't think I'll HAVE to skip on anybody's questions but who knows.

MC's forums "unofficially" kicked me out, or, the community did at least. They didn't like me much when I came to power (they didn't like me BEFORE either since I was kind of a jerk), mostly because I stuck up for Club Penguin. These days Tetsumonchi manages those forums.
Draco, will you ever be able to add new smilies and thread tags, or is it permanently broken?
For all inclusive purposes I'm just going to say they're permanently broken. I've asked my supervisor(s) off and on for 16 months to fix them.
Will be there uPick 3.0?
Most likely, the first one was great.

i remember when the forums used to go down quite a bit... what was that from, and why does it not happen anymore?
The server that hosted MCCP also hosted the original MC forums AND the multiplayer connectivity for games like Robot Rage and Anagrammatic. Too many people would be on at once and the servers would simply crash from having too much strain on them. This was evident the day these forums opened, so many people tried to register on the forums that the servers just... blew up.
A few months into MCCP being open the servers went down a few more times, like you pointed out, but new servers were purchased and from there we haven't had any problems at all. :)
If this forum goes inactive or dies, or even Club Penguin makes a new forum for the website, will this one close down? Or if it goes inactive, will it go back to Miniclip forums? I'm curious and always thought of this but never had the right time to ask the question..but obviously now I do. :P
Argh I don't like this question. It was never asked before because nobody foresaw that coming, but I guess the time for us to meet our maker is actually a real thing that people are concerned about. It's implied that ANY forum only has a finite amount of time to be around online, and perhaps MCCP has begun to drop off since our heydays, but as Administrator it is my duty to cultivate this community.
I have done my best. I have done 101% of what I am capable of doing every single day I have been on this forum. Unfortunately we are plagued with a handful of things that just don't work (emotes, thread tags, bot accounts, old vBulletin version, etc). These are all things out of my jurisdiction - I cannot fix them, I need server access. I don't have it, my boss(es) do, but I can't seem to get a hold of them.
I don't think MCCP is going anywhere bad anytime soon, but should this trend continue I just want everyone to know that not a single day went by when I didn't care about this place. It began as a job, it turned into a livelihood.

When you report a post, the mod takes a look at it and hands out an infraction/warning. It isn't automatic.

It's a function called Visitor Messages where users can "post" on your profile - but it only comes with the newer versions of vBulletin. I've put in a request for an update... we will see how that goes. Can't promise anything.
Hmm, How hard is it to manage these forums? Like what are the problems you have to face?
I see you were warned that you'll get a wall of text as an answer. :P The folks at the Forum Focus already asked me a similar kind of question, you can check out my interview in their thread:

QUESTION: Is the infraction/Warning System like... Autimaticly do that? Or does a mod or someone have to go to them and give them an infraction/Warning?
Infractions and warnings are given out at the discretion of the moderator who reviews a reported post. So, if you do so happen to break the rules I'd hope to get someone lenient. Like me. :P
Why did I get 2 infraction points for one post when I don't even know what the post said because someone else had access to my computer?
I'll give you the benny of the doubt on this one, since the post was deleted. It was a To Catch A Predator joke. However the security of your account in the end, is your responsibility not ours.

BBSP is something I plan to bring out at either "celebratory times" or just for random fun if we haven't had it in a while. It keeps it exclusive and fresh for when it comes out. Something like BBSP can get very boring very fast if it's just left open.

Users? I'd take a private escape pod and let the rest of you sort that problem out.
As for subforums... let's see. MCCP-TV would be on the cutting block. So would most of the JFF forums. Bonus Round would be out the window and probably the Mod Blog forum. Programming Penguins would also get the axe.
Then I'd pray that we dropped enough weight... which we wouldn't have because those posts would be dumped somewhere. :P

If this is so, why don't we just shut down this forum and make a new MCCP that uses updated material? I know all of our post counts and things would be gone and including our 1 mill marker and half of our members but it would be much better, you would be the main admin and you could make the dracophile tag and the new smileys and it would be a whole lot eiasier without all the problems, though it would really *crap* Up the people that have high post counts and things,

Is there any other super smexeh ideas planned for reaching 1 million posts? I think you said you had something planned in another thread but I'm not sure whether that was just BBSP.
Is the ban-list definately definately gone forever? :(
1) The re-opening of the BBSP with post count enabled for a limited time was the surprise for 1,000,000 posts.
2) Ban List was taken down because of bots having inappropriate links in their profiles... and since we can't get an anti-bot thing installed they've basically taken up a lot of space and the Ban List is now a swamp of porn links and stuff - I don't think it would be decent of us to "display" something like that. It is safe to assume it's gone.
How much should i write when i report a post?
Usually a few words is good enough, especially if the offending post is self-explanatory like someone setting off the filters or posting an inappropriate picture. If it requires explanation you can feel free to take as long as you need.
I think its time for me to ask this question.
If this is so, why don't we just shut down this forum and make a new MCCP that uses updated material? I know all of our post counts and things would be gone and including our 1 mill marker and half of our members but it would be much better, you would be the main admin and you could make the dracophile tag and the new smileys and it would be a whole lot eiasier without all the problems, though it would really *crap* Up the people that have high post counts and things,
Yet, i think its a fair trade, i think we'd all be alright having the forums gone for a week or so... if it would TAKE THAT LONG.
In theory if I wanted to I could open up something like "Dracophile's Penguin Emporium" on the old RFSHQ server space but it wouldn't do any good. I'm not employed to supervise something off of Miniclip, I am employed by Miniclip to supervise this very community. I also don't think I'd be allowed to literally break this forum off of Miniclip's hosting and host it elsewhere, because then MC would no longer have control over it and if something happens it will have a negative impact on them as well.
Dracophile: When you get the migrator stowaway rank, will it be like that forever? Because there's no more ranks after that.
Idristhegiant:)
There might be one or two extra ranks out there we just haven't mentioned. There's an achievement icon for Migrator Stowaway and then another achievement for "finding out what comes after 10,000 posts". ;)
Hey dere Draco. On Average, how much time,Daily, do you usually spend on these forums?
Actually ON these forums? All in all throughout an average day I'd say 2-3 hours. I spend time off of the forums also working on MCCP-related projects and stuff too.
I have another question: (Note: Mods please don't get offended by this)
I would like to know is it just coincidence that all the mods are from America? Becuase, I believe for the smoothest possible running of the Forum there should be mods from different parts of the world than America (European countries, Austrailia) Who will be awake when the Americans are asleep and vice-versa.
I think in MCCP's history we've had moderators from other countries, it's just that right now I suppose it appears that we're all from the USA. We don't make it a specific point to only add American moderators (which would be weird considering Miniclip is British), I guess it just so happens for now that's where we're all from.
Is discussion about baiting allowed here?
Baiting as in scambaiting/419 baiting? I'd say no just because as funny as that stuff is a LOT of it is very inappropriate for a forum like this.
In your opinion, does MCCP's activity declining, rising or staying the same?
Declining.
When you said you had a surprise for the forum but you had to consult your supervisors (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showpost.php?p=1094361&postcount=106), were you talking about visitor messaging?
The "surprise" was an updated vBulletin, so yes Visitor Messages would have come with that package. ;)

I just want to see a picture of a nice muffin when I see a thread of a muffin and then get a "What muffin are you?" quiz.
Plus they are all the same. They say about the same thing. And it's be takin forever mon

Is it possible to eat a Dragonburger without buying all the burgers needed to make it? It's just that I don't want to spend 20 bucks for one burger.
What I did was I started with the homestyle burger value meal (if they don't have it get a Big Mac I guess), then paid something like $1 to add a fish patty and a chicken patty. I spent extra on the chicken because I accidentally ordered the "Chicken Selects" nonsense. Then to add bacon it's only 50 cents more, but given the status of the economy the price of the bacon has probably gone up.
I am really not sure if this was asked before. I checked in just thread, but I decided I would give it a shot.
If Club Penguin does end, will this forum shut down and leave the users to go their separate ways? Or will it be changed to a normal forum?
I doubt the last question, but I wanted to throw it out there.
I don't THINK CP is going to shut down or close anytime soon, but if they did I'd put in a suggestion to either let this forum exist as a general chat forum, or ask if I could have the database for it and just host it elsewhere, since I believe it would no longer be of any use.
Why don't mods get paid? That's what I want to know.
Not in the budget? :P

I may perhaps be in charge of it, I'd certainly make the offer. I would have to become familiar with Spineworld the game though, like I am with Club Penguin. I don't (or never really did) religiously play Club Penguin so I did not know specific details but I had a solid general understanding of the game and was able to setup a community accordingly.
Why... is the Spineworld forum really picking up speed on Miniclip? :)

It's been a year (over a year) since the first time we tried it, and the Roast has gotten a sizable amount of votes each time it has shown up in uPick, as well as securing a decent fanbase. Roastmaster had already mentioned it to me prior to posting that thread, I suggested he get some feedback from the community because of how Comedy Central is currently airing their roasts all this week.
If we bring it back, he mentioned "doing it a little differently", I thought the idea was interesting so we will see how it works out.

I believe "5 viewing" is counting everybody except for guests, so that's regular people, staff, hidden staff, people who haven't validated their account yet, and banned users.

The RP forums was originally a JFF forum that Spem wanted. All mods can have a JFF forum but the idea has to pass quality Control, AKA Draco.
Some mods are just better at coming up with ideas, and taking the time to operate a forum.
Moderators win Upick by default because we can just get our ideas approved by Draco.

Moderators don't HAVE to submit ideas to uPick, because technically they can win a month automatically as long as the idea is sound and feasible. They're in charge of it though, and they get it for 1 month or longer if needed unless it becomes incredibly popular and we decide to keep it for good (like the RP forum).

1. There aren't as many people here anymore. I don't remember how long I left the other threads open so I can't compare.

When is The MCCP R*@$T of Dracophile gunna open, and what is the idea of it? What is it all about?
Due to on-going popular demand via people emailing me, posting on the forums, and voting in uPick I've decided to sit down with Roastmaster, Vital Viper, Guardian Ou, and other folks to plan out the roast AGAIN, but this time with a designated format to follow to prevent things from getting weird like they did last time.
Roastmaster posted a thread about Comedy Central's roasts on TV and from there we all generally kind of came up with the same idea at the same time - we can open a roast forum to honor a specific member of MCCP history (who is still active today) and make that the focal point of the event, and then users can also have fun on the side making short quick roasts about regular users who are participating in the roast but are not the center of attention.
It was kind of one of those unspoken things that the person for the inaugural roast should be me: owner, administrator, ...and dracophile. :P For now the forum is a "placeholder" while we do all of the back-end work and write out the rules and such.
Well, its open, and i don't know whats it about,
It's not open, you can't post in it.
If there were to be a Posting Games III what do you think could be improved to that sub-forum?
The "II" suffix on Posting Games just denotes that it's the second time we rolled it out. The first time we did it, not sure if you were there or remember it, but ANYBODY could post threads... which led to a real problem (basically Big Boards Stimulus Package except it was ALWAYS ON). The same problem happened on the other MC forums as well. We closed both of them and then around the same time we opened them back up with modifications to only let Moderators post threads. Miniclip has since dropped the "II" from the name on theirs, but I kept it here because I like it.
In short, I don't really think there's a need for a "III" because we pretty much have it under control this time since only staff can approve and post threads in there.

1) Generally we do uPick for a month and vote, winner gets their forum for the next month, and then we do uPick again the month after. That seems to work.

1. I have a moderator blog somewhere that has links and pictures of old stuff. There's 2 or 3 of them.
2. Probably getting the position in the first place and then trying to get accustomed to the job.

Will be "Hello? Is there anyone up there?" locked, or we`ll have to wait Basketcase`s ban to be lifted? Because it`s a real flame war which has continued for way too long.
It's been dead for 2 days. Just let it rest.

I'm sorry, but why has NFL got its own sub-forum? There are, if anything, more threads about soccer than there about NFL. Sorry I keep moaning about stuff in the Sports Forum, but I'm sure you can see my point that it is really unfair NFL got its own sub-forum when just as many people post about Soccer. In my opinion, Soccer get its own sub-forum aswell or nothing does.
Tom is running a contest that is centered on NFL. It's not for football discussion.

I dunno, I haven't seen many reports coming from that thread.

We don't need it to be locked. I enjoy it to be open.

Why does Payton, John-h, JaCK. and Da Luc have the gender of 'Ad bot'? They aren't perma-banned and I thought only admins (maybe mods too) had the ability to change their gender.

Could I host a Club Penguin Fan Art contest for people to vote for the best CP artist?

They (along with Roastmaster) are just acting really stupid - we know they aren't bots, we are mostly concerned with NEW accounts who have that as their gender because 100% of the time they are bots.

It's a selectable gender, did you pick it? If now you can change it.
edit: Link: Yes. :P Sorry, you and I posted almost at the same time.

Can mods give themselves infractions?
Payton

I remember Draco noted that due to his amazing superior magic admin powers only he could get an infraction and still get away with it. I don't see why mods would do that, since it isn't public so it wouldn't be all that funny.

In theory yes, but I don't see why. :P

I meant it to be as some kind of joke. Maybe I'll have VV do it.

I have added you on MSN a while ago but I don't think you added me? You are never on, or do you just not go on it anymore?
Also, are you getting sick of people asking you about BBSP :P ?

My MSN is no longer public, so if you added twilight_foundry@hotmail.com to your list you won't see me on it. I haven't logged into that for about 3 years. I answer my email from there though, because that's been my main email account since 2001 (dating back to when Twilight Foundry was originally created).

Being on this forum for so long, you must have a lot of good memories (and some bad). What is your best memory about the MCCP forums (or something related to them).

My best memory would probably be the server crash that happened literally within 30 minutes of this forum opening. :P
And also just to put this out there since a couple of people have asked me about it. No, we didn't pick Lux Aeterna in the manner I described in the Post Ranks thread (selecting a random user). That's just silly. We actually considered him, there was discussion involved. :P

When will the Roast be archived? Its been in the JFF Category for a while now and we can't post in it.
What is your favorite fruit?

I'll archive the Roast soon, I left it there so people could still read it without having to dig for it.

A COPPA user is under the age of 13. COPPA is a law that requires children under the age of 13 to get parental consent before they can post.
Is this true? I got this straight from VB. So can a person underage join if the parent gives permission?

It's laughably bureaucratic, so I'm guessing Ben and the gang just scrapped that part.

We have to take and file paperwork for that to work, I believe. Or at least that's what I was told some 3 years ago. Miniclip doesn't have a COPPA form for the company, and we don't file the papers, which is why we ban people.
