I thought you had to register to become a country.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A man accused of driving drunk says Pennsylvania courts have no jurisdiction over him because he's his own country.

He seems really desperate to prove his innocence, I wonder why.

I think you're pretty much taking it out of context. He's saying that America does not own him, not that he is literally 'a country'.

I know. :P, but that's the name the newspapers gave the story.

I would understand if they wanted to suspend his license because he ran over someone, but really, did he hurt anyone by driving drunk? That's basically punishing him for a crime he did not commit.

That's why I was thinking he said he was a "non-resident".

Welcome to Scott Wilter!

And according to the article, he is not his own country, he is saying that he does not live in Pennsylvania, that he considers himself as a "non-resident".

Either he has been drinking too much beer or he's just crazy. He is definitely not his own country with a population of 1 that keeps on moving.

Yeah, but who does want their license suspended?

I can seriously picture someone saying "OH PLEASE PLEASE, NICE YOUNG OFFICER, TAKE MY DRIVER'S LICENSE!!!" <-Sarcasm.

Actually this one guy that was on one of those reality T.V. shows would've wanted the officer to take his licese away. In the episode he was like, "Just give me a ticket. I try to punish myself all the time, and I always try to get the more severe punishments." I think that he was either mentally ill or was trying to kiss-up so the officer wouldn't actually give him a ticket.

As for this man, I have met many people like him who always say things like, "I have a freedom of speech." I find it funny how hard these people try to not get a punishment for breaking the law.

... Two words. Reality television.

What if the law is stupid and ridiculous? Then is it okay to break it and ask to not have punishment for it?

No, because it is still a law no matter how stupid and ridiculous it is.

Why should you have to follow something that is stupid?

You're completely ignoring the point, and just repeating the question instead of giving an answer.

Why must we be such a hick state? Dx

It doesn't matter if this law is stupid or not. The law is law, and there's really nothing to do about it unless you want to get in to all that legal business. I still don't see how I am ignoring the point, and what does this even have to do with the thread? The law the man broke was drunk driving and there's nothing stupid or ridiculous about it.

No, because it is still a law no matter how stupid and ridiculous it is.

So if the law was that everyone had to wear tight, pink pants and a striped yellow and purple shirt in public with a fedora on, would you not oppose? Anyone who's just going to say 'It's a law, I have to follow it no matter what' seems like a sheep to me.

Thank you for actually replying this time, this way we can argue and get banned and hate each other because it. <3

It absolutely does matter if the law is stupid or not. Because the law is prejudice against everyone, even those who have not hurt anyone. That would be like me coming up to you and arresting you because you own a set of knives and this could lead to you killing someone. Because knives are naughty. You can hurt people with them if you're psychotic enough. And what if you are? You could really hurt someone with those, so I think we should take them away from you. Even if you weren't psychotic, you could hurt yourself with the knives. You could cut your finger off. That would injure you, and you wouldn't want that to happen, so I am doing what's best for you and everyone. Go democracy, haytazzz!!1

Really, should handling knives while be drunk be illegal? Because I really think you could hurt someone with those sharp metallic puppies. Don't drink and BQQ. MADBQQ. (Mothers Against Drunk Barbecuing)

That man was me... except I wasn't drunk. jk

I support what that man said. The government can't control me any longer! I'm my own country now, and they can't do squat! Except maybe kick me out of the UN. I think I would be considered a communist country too.

Is that the sound of banjos I hear in the distance?

This guy obviously has a really fantastic sense of humour, or needs a mental health examination cos if he's serious, then that's no laughing matter.

So then, why am I laughing so hard? :D
