In Need Of A GIMP Guide

Hi everyone, I downloaded GIMP about a week ago, so I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a guide on how to make signatures, avatars, and other things of that nature. Because I look at Black Hawk's sigs and a lot of other people sigs, and I wonder, how the heck do they make those. So if someone could give me a GIMP Guide, I would really like it.
