My cat, Prune, died this morning. She was 17 years old, which is very good for a cat. I comfort myself in thinking she had a well filled life. 6 months ago, she went blind. Then, 1 month ago, she went deaf. It was hard for her getting used to a dark, silent world, but she learned how to find us by feeling the vibrations we made when we walked. 3 weeks ago, we found out she had terminal cancer. She was also having many breathing problems at the time. We knew she didn't have for long, and she has a great fear of vets, so we decided it would be better for her if she died in our home instead of going to a vet. This whole week, she started forgetting where her litter was, and we had to clean up. She suddenly started following us, and hugged us eagerly. It seemed she knew that she would die soon, too. Last night, on midnight, all the lights in the whole town went out. She was barely alive, but it seemd like she refused to die. It seemed like she was waiting for something. Then at 6 AM, I got up to go to school. The whole house was filled with candles. At 6:30 AM, she felt that everyone was there, and whispered goodbye to us. She let death finally take her to heaven.
My mum realised soon after that Prune was dead, but didn't tell anyone but my dad so that we wouldn't have cried for the whole day at school. She told me and my sister not to kiss her before going to school, her excuse was that Prune needed a good, long sleep after a whole night of awakeness. We then left to school. It's only when we went back home my mum told us the truth. Just now, I come back from Prune's funeral. We buried her in the garden, and tomorrow my mum will plant a japanese marple on her grave. In a few minutes, I will go downstairs to eat at the feast my mum has prepared in Prune's honor. Prune's ghost now haunts the house, and she plays with my long dead hamster's ghost, Tsunami.
R.I.P Prune.
I will never forget you.

May your cat rest in peace.
And like you said before, all that matters is that she lived a good life.

17 years? :O Isn't that long?
Sorry for your lost. I recently had my dog die, she was around 15. I had her all my life, until then, and it was heartbreaking for her to die. -_-

I know what you mean. That cat was older than me or my big sister. Her birthday, by the way, was 3rd
March. And yes, that is long.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, so let's wish Prune to Rest In Peace.
I think you need to get a new pet now. It will make you happier and less upset.

My sister's boyfriend has a pregnant cat. He is planning to give us one of the kittens.
I am not taking another cat to replace Prune, she will keep a special part in my heart, it's just that I want a cat. Despite Prune never making a sound, the house "sounds" awfully silent and empty now... I know she looks down at me from heaven, or wherever catsouls go :)
I like to think of her ghost being in the house, playing with my old hamsters ghost.
I mustn't think about it, otherwise I'll cry again...
That's it I'm crying... -_-
Prune was a special cat. Everyone who saw her said she was beautiful. She was black, with a white heart shape on her torso. The shape of her head was very elegant. She was beautiful...

Rest in peace, Prune.
It stinks you cat died, I have had to go through 3 cats dying, two that I could it least understand about death, and one was when I was a bit young. We've replaced them all with 3 new cats ranging from 1 year to 4 years old.
Anyways, I hope your family can handle the loss, and maybe get a new furry friend later in the months.

I feel your pain.
I had a 21 year old cat who was very loving and well behaved. His name was Shampaign but we called him Boo. My mom took Boo to the doctor one day and when she came back she had informed us he had cancer on his nose. I was so shocked because I was thinking he was getting close to death. Then ever since his nose got cut off, he was never the same adventurous, loving cat he had always been. He stopped taking care of himself and he got all dirty and smelly. My parents decided it would end his misery if they put him to sleep. Now today, we replaced him with two cats, a dog, and a guinea pig. It used to be two guinea pigs, but one had also passed away. I hope you guys find a new loving pet just like Prune to take his place.
Rest in Peace, Prune.

That's a sad story. At least she lived a good life. May her soul rest in peace. Death always has to come.

I am terribly sorry about your loss. I hope your cat rests in peace. I hope you feel better soon, and to look back at the fun times you had fun with Prune. Prune is in a better place, and I'm sure she will never forget you. I know how it feels to lose a pet. I used to have a dog when I was 3 and 4 years old. Her name was Nala. I did not know any better, but I fed her food that she was not supposed to eat and they had to put her to sleep. I was petrified and I had sad memories whenever I would think of her ( I still do to this day). I hope my story helps a little of what you are feeling right now. I hope you will get better soon.

I fell for you mate, I guess you shouldn't mourn her death, but celebrate her life, it sounded like she had a happy one, she sounded beautiful, and I know she would have, and still does love you as much as you love her. May she Rest in peace.
(I am not going with my signature pink because I feel it would be unappropriate in this thread.)

Oh I'm so sorry! But at least they lived a wonderful life, because YOU were their friend/owner. Also you seem like a wonderful person so im SURE your pets were happy. Also I feel you pain, I had 3 pets all die in the lifespan of a year. They were all around 13 so it was their time.Back on topic : I am very sorry for your loss, I hope you will feel better about it soon. After my pets died, I had dreams with them in it, and my favorite one, I couldve sworn I SAW Out of the corner out of my eye. Best of wishes to you and your family.

Thank you. That made me feel better. Just now, when I came back from school, I went towards the couch were she usually slept to hug her. But today, she wasn't there of course. That made me sad, but your post made me happier. You seem like a wonderful person too.
:)
PS: For those who think 'Prune' is a weird name, let me explain:
'Prune' is french for 'plum', not dried ones, fresh ones. It also sounds nicer than in english.
(Yes, I am french)
