This morning, a New York man who did not have change paid for coffee with his car.
According to the Starbucks employees, the man, Stuart Katz, came into the coffee shop at around 8:30 am and asked if he could get a cup of coffee for free. When they declined, he ran to his car to look for change.
When there was none, he went to the store and asked people in the store for money. Then, realizing that he had an appointment at 9 and that he needed caffeine, he offered the employees his car.
"It's a brand new Kia sedan, fully loaded and a full tank of gas", Katz reportedly told the employees. "It should be worth plenty of coffees. I'll take a Venti of the most expensive one you've got."
Starbucks employees said that he could have 10000 more of those same coffees, and that they would recognize him if he sang a secret song.
"This is so no impostors come along and get free coffee", the manager of the branch said.
When asked what they were to do with the car, the employees said that they would sell it and split. Some would pay rent, some would go shopping, and others buy used cars with the money.
Starbucks corporate declined to comment.
