WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Terrorists are likely to use a weapon of mass destruction somewhere in the world in the next five years, a blue-ribbon panel assembled by Congress has concluded.
They are more likely to use a biological weapon than a nuclear one -- and the results could be devastating, the chairman of the commission told CNN.
"The consequences of a biological attack are almost beyond comprehension. It would be 9/11 times 10 or a hundred in terms of the number of people who would be killed," former Sen. Bob Graham said.
He cited the flu virus that killed millions of people in 1918 as an example. "Today it is still in the laboratory, but if it should get out and into the hands of scientists who knew how to use it for a violent purpose, we could have multiple times the 40 million people who were killed 100 years ago," he said.
The U.S. government "needs to move more aggressively to limit" the spread of biological weapons, the commission said in its report.
Graham warned that such measures would be costly, but were necessary. "The leadership of this country and the world will have to decide how much of a priority ... they place on avoiding the worst weapons in the world getting in the hands of the worst people in the world," he said.

Do you think this will happen by 2013? If indeed it does happen that someplace in the world is hit with biological weapons, where do you think it would be at?
I'm not sure if it's possible.

Scientifically speaking, and partially siding with the terrirosts, this is actually a GOOD thing. The human population is more than 5 times past the carrying capacity (the population of a certain species that the earth can hold). If it happens, it will help to bring the human population down, thus slowing global warming/pollution. We humans actually NEED to die in order to save the earth. There are simply too many humans for this world.

But what if your best friend or relatives dies? Not good.
I don't think it'll happen by 2013, seems too soon.

No. There is talk of this all the time. They're just trying to scare you. Remember the bird flu? Yeah, everybody was TERRIFIED of it, but suddenly we just stopped hearing about it.

Yes, I would be sad, and it would be bad for ME. And if they died, it wouldn't be good nor bad to the earth, because we are reproducing faster and faster. I don't know if your saying what if they died from this, or if they just died.

The Baby Boom results are getting old though. By 2013, and not intending to wish death upon my dad's parents, they may be deceased by then of old age (The Baby Boom was just after WWII), so that may be the decrease needed. Unfortunately, the terrorists always want, as Chris Crocker would put it, MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!1 And by more, I mean death. Having the prospect of a biological terror attack is, well, horrific (I was going to say terrifying) at the least.

Agreed. Terrosrists are always trying to scare us. And plus 2013 seems a bit too early...

Well look who's spilled the beans.
I agree with both Link and iWaddle. It would be good for the world yet naturally we wouldn't allow our friends and family be killed, if we knew that terrorists were attacking automatically we would prevent our families deaths by telling them. However if we didn't know and they surprised us with an attck, then we would argue that there was no warning, no prevention etc...

Know how to stop that? Just kill the stupid viruses for good. Especially that one. CASE CLOSED.
But anyways, It sorta frightens me, I mean who knows, it could be you getting something worse that a shot to the head. Slow.... Painful... Death.

What a bright future. I can barely wait until my Junior year in college, then.
This philosophy has no logic at all behind it, just some person wants to make us scared by telling us this, and what a pathetic excuse to critisize the US Government even further. Isn't the world supposed to end in 2012 anyways?

That is social control. How would you feal if your whole family died because the government thinks there are too many people in the world?
You people need to realise that part of biological warfare is where it dies out quickly so that alot of people die in a short area. It is the same thing as anthrax (?). The terrorists would be much better off sending a nuke at us and saying Russia did it so that Russia and USA kill each other off.

I highly doubt it. And who are we to say that the earth will end in on certain date/year? No one. No one knows what will happen. Sure the scientists can make all the predictions in the world, but they do not always come true. Those are just little facts trying to scare people and take just a hint of worrying about it.

A lot of people probably would have said that 9/11 wouldn't happen if it was predicted like this. I believe it. I think in five years at least there will be a biological terrorist attack on U.S., Russia, or U.K. Don't know why I just feel like us three countries are biggest threat(super powers).

Some things that I have realised is this, if the terrorists had not thought of Biological Warfare, then they just got the idea (props to the U.S. Government). If they do use Biological Warfare, there is no real way we can stop it, it would be sent in the mail like Anthrax was. They are exadurating (?) with the whole "9/11 but 10 times worse" because not only would we notice it in time to hopefully stop it, but if they made it transported via air, then they would have to have it burn out before it gets laced right back to there friends and/or families. So, Biological Warfare would not be as effective as a nuclear bomb. Yes, this is me, going against the government. Lol.

Trust me, biological warfare is not a new idea. It's been around a long time. Actually, it has happened before in some cases where someone sent anthrax through the mail. It killed like two people though.
I would prefer the government trying to find cures for these diseases instead of hiring bodyguards for America.
And I completely disagree, I think that biological warfare would be a lot more effective than a nuclear bomb. If you use a bomb, there's only so much damage you can do, but with biological warfare if you use it wisely, you can wipe out a huge number of people.
I am going to get drunk now, so I can be ready for this "biological terrorism". =]

THIS is a perfect terrorism weapon. People could just think there working on medicine or something, than send loads to the U.S. Less obvious then a nuclear bomb, more deadly.

In deed it has.
"The earliest documented incident of the intention to use biological weapons is recorded in Hittite texts of 1500-1200 B.C, in which victims of plague were driven into enemy lands. Although the Assyrians knew of ergot, a fungus of rye with effects similar to LSD, there is no evidence that they poisoned enemy wells with ergot, as has often been claimed."
Anyway, they will most likly poison our water rather then our air.

Yeah, exactly. The US has thousands of nukes, so if they try something like that, we can basically say goodbye to the entire middle east.

The thing is, its terrorists. The problem with the terrorists is not that they are hard to beat, but that they are hard to find. There is no unified terrorist group that the basic public knows of. If they do send a weapon of mass destruction, then it would be impossible to knock them all out and we would be killing many inocent people and missing most of the people who killed us in the first place.

If it happens, it would probably be in the USA. They would be the ones who could change what ever the terrorists wanted changed the most easily and would be on a bigger scale.
Obviously any powerful country could be targeted, but I image that'd be the main one.

Yes, although that is a very clinical and emotionless way of looking at it.
May as well let someone go and kill your family to lower the population.
