Look at the other persons cards and see what they need. If they need fire, they think you're going for water, so they use snow, and then you use fire. ;)

Basically the above, I also try to predict if they're going to counter me, and plan for that.

I try and think of what they think I am going to do so I flip it up on them, odds help too.

usually I start off with water, seems to work a lot; fire is appealing to a lot of people. I usually copy the person's last move, also seems to work. And when I have two different colored and element cards I do the opposite techniques (Say you have water and snow: the person HAS to think you're doing water, they throw snow, you throw fire) so I have one, two of the same kind.

Then that gives me two decision. I usually go with the last element.
