Hey. I was wondering if anyone out there, preferably Dracophile, that knows how to upload videos from a camera (not a digital camera, a video recording one) onto their computer. Like, how to I get something I filmed on my camera onto my PC?
Is there a cord or something I need?

Most newer camcorders have a DV (FireWire) or USB interface, or both sometimes. There are special cables (usually sold separately) where one end will plug into the camcorder and the other will plug into the computer via either USB or FireWire depending on the connection your camera has. If you have the option, I'd go with FireWire because that's what I use.
If you don't have any fancy dancy editing/capturing software, Windows Movie Maker actually has USB/FireWire capturing support. When you plug in your camera and turn it on the PC should automatically recognize it and ask you what you want to do with it. When you're in WMM just pick out the camera (it will either be named the model number of the camera or just "AV Compliant Device") and from there it'll ask you what quality to record (I pick "Best Playback on my PC") and the filename. On the next screen will be buttons for play, pause, stop, rewind, and forward that will control your camera along with a video preview screen. Clicking "Start Capture" will start the tape from that position and it will continue to record until it runs out of tape or when you press "Stop Capture".

Ok thanks Dracophile! I'll check to see if my video camera can do that. :)

As RFS mentioned, if you have a camcorder with tapes, then you need the Firewire cable. It costs about $70-$100. -.-
That's why I'm asking for it for Christmas so I can upload videos.
Caution!
