I cannot belive what I am seeing. Moderators are going to far with this. Staff wants kids to actually buy there crappy books and toys to get items? We members already pay 5 bucks a month now this? Ripping of children and teens cp should be ashamed.

I wouldn't really think of it as "ripping us off". They are making the game better with the money we pay by adding new servers and new features, so of course they need more money to pay for everything.

EDIT: I also read somewhere that a portion of all there money goes to charity... I forgot where. Is that true or am I just crazy?

Coin for change. It was a little thing they did during Christmas of '07. Penguins would donate coins in game to a charity, and CP donated money, i forget how much, to the Charity with the most coins donated to it.

No, No it isn't. These kids are tricked into thinking that they want one. That is why club penguin Is an endless pit of money for disney. And yes I mean disney, They did this. People that say that disney ruined club penguin are right. The whole point of teaming up with disney is so club penguin could do things like this. When I went to buy my club penguin book today (Which I did not get, They were out of them. I got an action figure.) It marked to be in the disney section. I am a member and I end up buying a lot of club penguins crap, Even though I dont know why I still pay for it, It seems almost like a waste at this point. When I joined it was well worth 6 dollars a month for a virtual penguin But now it is not. Sorry I just had to get out my monthly rant.

Thats ok, Ill be happy to see next month's Rant.

But the thing is, who cares if this is a whole big rip-off? The money is going to end up helping Club Penguin to provide for events and stuff. And help them make new languages for the game. Also, like said before, a portion of the money goes to charity, which was why Coins for Change happened almost a year ago.

You guys can express an opinion, but don't attack each other.:|

Don't buy the things if you don't want to. Everyone complains about how dumb it is to want rare items or what others have. Now you are all doing it because of they new promotions for the toys and books that give you access to unique things. Buy it or don't, but quit whining about it.

If you keep flaming each other I won't change your posts or delete them, I will give you an infraction.

I doubt 13 year olds would ask theyre parents for money to buy a penguin plush.

People, you got to understand this is all a form of business. CP is just trying to make money so they can have successful lives.

I made a post like this also, but now I realize how stupid it was. It is your decision to buy the toys, ok? No one is forcing you to buy them. I agree, spending money to have a pair of other pixels isn't really "cool", but I might buy one, or two and we should stop complaining. But, I can see how Club Penguin is kind of tempting you to buy one, that's kinda happening to me, but I'm not going to buy all of them. Stop complaining alright? Like I said before, its your choice, buy them or not.

It's a form of making money. All businesses have to make money to stay in business. I'm not saying Disney is going out of business, but if Club Penguin wasn't making enough money, who knows what would happen? Disney might decide to shut Club Penguin down. You don't have to like what Disney and Club Penguin do, but please don't ruin it for the rest of us. :|

Also go complain to somebody who cares because we are tired of hearing a baby crying because they don't like it and want to tell everybody. If you want to go cry rip off don't cry to us go cry to your parents or your siblings because we are tired of hearing you crying.

I see what you're saying, but I think when club penguin thought of this idea it wasn't
about making you buy toys to get items, they wanted to add a little bonus to
all the little kids that buy them, they get a toy and an item.

Sounds good, but somewhere between then and now we've turned
it into "CP is evil , they want us to buy items what is happening".
I don't think that is the case.

Also it could be worse, they could have you buy some $100 club
penguin action figure set and get the code for some whole
new catalog. You should be happy that they're only a few exclusive items.

Game Lord
31 October 2008, 12:36 PM
It is everyone's choice whether or not they choose to buy the toys or books. If they want to, they will; if they don't, they will not. It is not correct to say that they are "brain-washed" into wanting to buy them; they are only "brain-washed" because they like Club Penguin, and the plain reason that they like Club Penguin is because it is excellent and a fun way to play.

I wish there wasn't any membership thing. I wish all clothes wer free. And it s not a rip off its for charity. Well some of it anyway

That is a thoroughly under-thought sequence of thought. You are thinking only about yourself and not about others and especially Club Penguin. If every thing was free, Club Penguin wouldn't have the funds and resources to keep itself going - that is quite simple to deduce. Please think about what you say before you post. Also, although I agree it is not a rip-off, it is only partially for charity - the rest goes into funds for Club Penguin, as you have stated yourself. Hence, you yourself have proved your argument pointless by saying that only some of the money goes to charity, since something can still be a rip-off when it is partially going to causes other than charity (if it is all going to charity, it can still be a "rip-off", but that, being a strong and unpleasant term, is not used to describe over-pricing when it is all for charity).

Yours sincerely,
Game Lord

Its still a toy, even with out the codes people would buy it.

The codes only unlock one item from a small set list.

We aren't forced to buy it.

Sorry, but because of these reasons I can't agree with you.

I don't feel that Club Penguin is becoming commercially corrupt either.

Unless you're a nut who's life goal is to have every Club Penguin item, the arguement is insignificant.

Gamerboy

I actually think it's a good idea. Yes it is to make more money, but that's the point behind any business. Miniclip tries to make money just as much as CP does. (Well maybe not quite so much considering there are no ads on these forums, but these forums are such a small percentage of total page views it probably doesn't make much difference).

Some parents would prefer to buy the toys than membership, because a membership only lasts a month where as you keep the toy for a lot longer. As well as gives them material possessions.

It is never revealed how much money goes to charity, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't that much these days.

That's true, you can get them for younger relatives.

Then take the codes off them for free.

I have one good point about this:

If you guys would work for Club penguin wouldn't you too do the same? It's all about the money, people. Stop complaining, don't buy if you don't want to and the toys is actually meant for children because there is many children in Club penguin. That's why they are making toys and games (Elite penguin force). If Club penguin were for adults, they would probably sell things such as Club penguin guns. Seriously, there are people out there who have guns in there home. Many of my friends family has one or two guns. Sorry if I changed the subject now.
But I think it's your choice if you want to buy toys or use the money for more important things such as charity, food, clothes and education. :)

Hamustar
31 October 2008, 05:26 PM
Toys were a highly requested item from users. The items that are now for sale are there because there was a demand for them. Just because some users are focusing on the fact that the people that purchase these also get a free virtual item doesn't change the fact that these items are available because they were wanted. No one is pushing anyone into purchasing them (except children asking their parents for them). If you don't want them, don't buy them.

And don't complain about the fact that we give the purchasers an extra treat with their purchase. If some users feel the need or want to have every single item in the game it doesn't mean that we are compelled to oblige them.

People do not buy the toys and books for items, they buy them for the books and toys and the items are just a bonus. Nobody i know will buy the toys for items as membership is a much better offer.
