O'FALLON, Missouri (AP) -- Authorities arrested a suspect Thursday in the death of a 12-year-old Illinois boy who investigators said was shot in his home as he did schoolwork.

Prosecutors charged Marcus Powell with first-degree murder in the drive-by shooting death of Delarrian Davis.

Capt. Brad Wells with the Madison County Sheriff's Department said Delarrian was minding his own business when he was killed early Tuesday at his home in Madison, Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.

Investigators found pencils and notebook paper near his body, indicating he was working on homework. A neighbor said she saw a man drive up in a car in front the house, turn off the headlights and fire shots into the home.

Powell, 27, had eluded authorities wanting to question him about the shooting until he surfaced near this St. Louis suburb Thursday morning, officials said.

After a chase, Powell was found in a shed at a mobile home park, said resident Bruce Koelling, who saw the capture. He said about 45 officers converged on the shed, sent in a dog and the entered the shed with guns drawn. Koelling said he heard Powell yell, but it appeared he surrendered peacefully.

Several schools nearby either closed for the day or were placed on lockdown during the manhunt.

Very sad. Did he even have any sort of a motive? Or did he just shoot the kid for anger reasons or just for fun? The world is going downhill in safety. I don't even feel safe in my home.

This is very sad. I heard about it yesterday, but they said he was watching TV on the news.

I live in that area, and have even visited the town where it happened.

I don't feel safe.

That is very sad. I hope the killer gets what he deserves. Saddens me that the world is this way.

He'll most likely go to jail for life. Which, if you ask me, is not a good enough consequence.

what? WHAT?!?! Illinois has a Madison too?!?! Those copyers!
On a more serious note:
News like this is what has gotten America locking their doors and scared of being robbed or attacked. Canada has even more guns than us per person, and yet barely anybody there locks their doors. Why? Because in their news, the headlines are never about bad things happening, such as deaths, murders, suicides, robberies, etc. Sure it's still sad, but plenty of others get killed every day in America.

Ugh, this is just stupid. I hate the way the world is now, it is just sad. The dude who did this doesn't need to be put on death row, he needs to be tortured in the most in-humane way possible. I wish I knew why people did that. The boy was only 12, he had a whole life ahead of him. I feel so bad for the family as well.

That sounds so sad. It always chokes me up when I hear of child deaths. :(

P.S. I hope they catch that evil ________ (there isn't a word bad enough to describe him).

I don't get it. Yeah, I get that the kid was shot, but why would someone just like drive up and kill someone for no reasons whatsoever. Ohhh well, I guess I don't have to get it.

Whether you like it or not, this kid died telling a message. The message is that life is too short to do homework.

I plan on taking his advice. :D

Man, that must stink for his parents and his family. I mean being shot while doing his Homework? That is one of the most weridest deaths you could have.
