View Full Version : Absolutely abysmal/weird video games that you considered to be the "worst ever".

Some of you may know that I'm shooting a series pilot for a popular video game newscast/podcast website. Some of you may not know this. Some of you might not know that I edit videos to begin with. In any case, the production crew is looking for some general suggestions for games that you would consider to be the "worst ever".
Please keep in mind, between the cast/talent of the show, we have a combined 50 years in video game experience, so we already know about games like ET or Total Recall so please don't start naming those off to us.
We are mostly interested in learning about some really bad or very strange video games that MOST people wouldn't really know about, or ones that haven't been run into the ground by everyone else already. For example, here are some of the picks from the cast of the show - how many of these can you honestly say you've heard of a million times?
J. Andre's picks:
- Robot Arena (PC)
- NanoQuest (PC)
- Jurassic Park (SNES)
- Monster Trux Arenas (Wii)
- Bubsy 3D (PS1)
Jason's picks:
- Reign Of Fire (PS2)
- Bomberman Act Zero (360)
- Make My Video: Marky Mark (Sega CD)
- Killzone (PS2)
- ReBoot (PS1)
William's picks:
- The Price Is Right (Wii)
- Two Worlds (360)
- Turok (360)
Any console goes, as our budget will allow us to reach outside to all kinds of systems to get titles for installments of the show. We are really looking for some dirt on more obscure and dead consoles like 3DO, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar, and others. Suggestions here are not REQUIRED but encouraged. Also if you could provide "what to look for" in the games you suggest it would help us organize things better.
We already have a HUGE list of "targets" but we would like to either know of games not on our list or perhaps where to start in our list. Thanks. :)

Search for "Big Rigs". It is the most glitchful game in the word, in fact either IGN or Gamespot had given them their absolutely minimum-est score of 1.0!!! Actually I could search and give a copy of it to you - it isn't illegal, the game itself is illegal! xD

Spectrobes (DS)
I can't believe I bought this game, it was like a rip off of Pokemon, but there were no cute animals to catch and enslave, only ugly Disney made monsters.
Mario Party Advance (GBA)
Why did Nintendo make this game? Missions, gadgets, driving in shoe-like cars, it wasn't fun like Mario Party. They lied to me.

I saw that on Youtube once. And you are so right. Another game that was "weird" was Vuitiful(?) Joe for the PS2. That was the worst game ever. Is ET really that bad? If so, why? I want to get my hands on a copy (and an atari) to see.

Really? I heard good things about Viewtiful Joe.
As for Big Rigs, I've seen quite a bit of footage of that game. I used to have this brilliant little Flash version of Big Rigs that a friend of mine made back in like 2004 but I can't seem to find it.

Spyro - Most Platforms :scary: I'm only joking...
I find the X-BOX game... erm, what's it called? Ugh, I've forgotten. But in it, you get a camera, and you make your own film. The graphics are horrible, and the end product isn't so good. I think it's on the X-BOX anyway.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OWqw1ExRvaM They REALLY looked for bugs, didn't they?
The weirdest game I ever played was Spyro the Eternal Night for DS.
Now, the last Spyro game I played was Spyro Enter the Dragonfly for PS2 (Back when the Spyro games were good) and they added a bunch of characters to the plot. Who the heck is Cynder? They don'y even introcuce you to the characters! It's like each game is a chapter to the story, and the game I got was just a chapter I picked out of random.
The graphics and controls are terrible, the bosses are way too easy, it doesn't tell you where to go in the level, and once you complete you have to start all over again! D: It's terrible and weird.

Also, most video games based on movies and or books tend to be horrible.

Here are some horrible games you might want to consider suffering through.
FBI Hostage Rescue:
PC
If I may quote a review,
In the first mission, one hostage decided to run up a fire escape instead of following us to safety. We eventually found him trapped on the roof, where he couldn't navigate his way down. Playing the mission again, a hostage got stuck under a platform, and it took a few minutes of fiddling--with the mission timer ticking all the while--to get him out. Then a second hostage got irretrievably stuck somewhere else. Playing again, we tried rescuing just one hostage at a time instead of two or three at once, but the first hostage kept walking in the wrong direction or disappearing through closed doors, forcing us to chase all over after him. Despite our best efforts, we could never get him to exit the building to safety. These sorts of problems occurred over and over, making the mission impossible to finish.
Drake of 99 Dragons:
Xbox
It's horrible controls and targeting system make it near impossible to play.
The protagonist Drake may sometimes run into a room full of enemies, but instead of focusing his attacks on them; he prefers to attack the wall.
It's story is near impossible to follow after the first few cutscenes and the presentation is rather poor.
Drake's visual style can only be compared to that of the animated Batman cartoon series, with square-jawed, barrel-chested character models and lots of dark, urban environments. Beyond this basic comparison, however, there isn't much else good to say about Drake's graphics. The game uses a form of cel shading that isn't exactly cel shading, but, rather, it's something Idol FX refers to as "rim-light shading." It doesn't make the game look animated or comic-inspired so much as it just makes everything look weirdly shiny and off-kilter. The game also animates horribly in just about every conceivable way. Drake moves around in an extremely stiff and goofy manner that just looks ridiculous, and the constant movement of his arms in every which direction makes things even worse. Enemies are stuck with only a couple of repeated movement animations, and, about half of the time, a piece of the environment will trap them in an endless loop of one of these animations.
Batman Dark Tomorrow:
Xbox
Gamecube
Probably some of the worst animation I've ever seen in a video game.
You might want to see if you can find some video of it, you can't really understand how poorly animated it looks until you see it.
Rise of the Robots:
LOTS
The graphics are great, nothing else is.
You can also use the same move over and over again and the A.I. won't notice.
Here's an interesting fact about it.
Although the back cover of the case claims that Rise had "original score by legendary rock guitarist Brian May" this can be considered a scam, since the only Brian May music you hear in the game is an approximately 5-seconds long guitar solo at the start of the game.
I used align center because it looked even more messy otherwise.

The Great Cow Race. Tell me, would you buy a game like that?
Dracophile
23 December 2008, 06:51 AM
Rise of the Robots I actually remember. It was promoted so heavily it's not even funny (yes it is). It was released on multiple platforms (Genesis, Sega CD, Super NES) and I distinctly remember the models taking up so much space that there are only like five fighters to choose from (including the "boss") and only a smidgen of levels to play on. Sadly I don't actually own a copy of this, but I'm looking.
As for the mention of Spyro earlier, I SHOULD hit you with something but honestly I have to agree that the games these days are pretty awful.

All of the Lord of the Rings games for PS2.
You start into the game straight away without even knowing which control does what, and a good tow thirds seem to just make you run in jerky little circles until some chunky pixel orcs come and try to hit you with a club, it freezes several times on the way down, the whole thing seizes up when it hits you and then you find out that that was supposed to be the tutorial level.

I've got some more suggestions for you.
Space Raiders
Gamecube
Quite simply put this game isn't worthy of being the successor to one of the best retro games ever made, space invaders.
You Are Empty
PC
If I may quote one piece of dialog from the game, "Here you go! Now! Now! Give me your iron piece!". Its not only one of the world's worst games, but one of the most surreal. It may actually be to creepy and surreal to do a humorous review.
Kiss Pinball
PS2
Worst Pinball game ever.
Spirit of Speed 1937
Dreamcast
Horrible loading times, poor physics, bad graphics, and hundreds of ridiculous hairpin turns, this game has it all.
Jurassic Park: Trespasser is possibly the glitchiest game ever created.
I second that.
The placement of the health meter is absolutely tasteless.

What about 'Hamster Heroes' for the Wii? It's a rip-off of Super Monkey Balls.
That game was absolutely terrible, each time you move the wiimote just a little bit to the right or left, then it makes a huge movement, and the movements are so choppy. The storyline is also plain cheesy:
Whilst out on an important mission Sergeant Fluff and the rest of the Hamster Heroes fall into a trap set by the evil Hamster X. Hamster X captures the Hamster Heroes and imprisons them in indestructible Hamster Balls!
Inside his dark and eerie lab X has been busy creating 15 mind bending puzzles for the Heroes to complete. He hopes they will be trapped for ever in the puzzles and will never escape, meanwhile he and his army of Cyber-Hamsters will Take over the World!!! Will Hamster X succeed? Will he take over the World? You are called upon to navigate the Hamster Heroes safely through the twisting and mysterious environments set up by Hamster X – would will need to cope with tilting ledges, rotating cogs and floating platforms – it takes skill and quick thinking to make it to the end!
The meanie is called Hamster X, and his minions are called Cyber-Hamsters?
This is, like, the most botched game I have ever seen. And with only fifteen levels!!!!
Luckily for me, I'm not the one who bought it. My cousin did.

Nra Varming Hunter for PC
Is you idea of fun shooting up gophers on a golf course? This game is for you, if you can stand the really bad looking textures, unplayable multi-player, and poor sound. There isn't much to this game, so there isn't much to say about it other than its shallow and poorly designed.
Yaris for Xbox live
The only thing this game will cost is disk space, and its not worth that. The whole game is just a bad ad for the Toyota Yaris and as far as Ad games go it's below the Burger King games. The control scheme is horrible, this presents the only challenge in the game. For the most part you can just blast mindlessly through entire levels without having to really worry. The only thing you should worry about is how much time it'll take to remove.
Spogs racing for Wiiware
Thought Ninjabread Man was the worst Wii title ever made? Spogs racing holds that title (for now). The difficulty curve in this game is reminiscent of a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. The graphics and sound are terrible, they look more dated than some early N64 games. Even in the trailer the gameplay looks bad.
