The title says it all really! I would like to record a kids's show from TV and add subtitles to it with some editing program. So, number 1, how do I record stuff from TV and then put it onto the comp, and number 2, any good (and easy) program to edit the vid like pausing the video, and add subtitles, pictures, pretty basic stuff I mean.
So, any help please? Thanks! :D
(If you are wandering, the show might get on YT)

You have to have a program like Tivo to do such. Or, if your old school, get a VHS and press the record button on your TV.

You can use an old fashioned TV recorder, and put it onto a video or you need a provider, like Sky or Virgin which allows that feature. I don't know of any other ways.

Record the program using whatever system you are comfortable with (VHS, DVD, Tivo, etc). You'll need a capture card for your computer, it's usually a USB/Firewire device that you plug into your computer that has A/V input ports on it, like your television. Get some A/V cables, plug one side into the "OUTPUT" part of your television and the other side into the capture card. It should have come with some software that you can use to see a preview (you should be able to see the TV on your computer). From there follow whatever instructions came with your capture card and you should be able to record the show.

Could you use that to record you doing something in a video game as well?

Absolutely.
I'm using a similar setup for a project I'm working on.

That's a great piece of advice. The exact name of the system I purchased was called "Dazzle Platinum", and it comes with all necessary software to install it and hook it up. It puts a set of RCA composite A/V cable ports right into your USB drive, so you can plug in your VCR/DVD or your game console and capture video.

Get a DVR or tibo. If you wanna pause the tv, then play it.

My lap top (sony Viao) has a special thing in it, where I can record/watch live TV. Other then that I don't know how I can help you. Sorry dude. Mabey Tivo, and use a USB thing to get it onto the computer?
