Turns out some of the 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony was 'faked'.
Olympic Fireworks 'faked'
BEIJING, China (AP) -- Not all was what it seemed during the spectacular opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
Beijing organizers confirmed Tuesday that some of the fireworks display featured prerecorded footage.
Fireworks that burst into the shape of 29 gigantic footprints were shown trudging above the Beijing skyline to the National Stadium near the start of the ceremony.
Though the footprint-shaped fireworks were real, some of the footage shown to television viewers around the world and on giant screens inside the "Bird's Nest" stadium featured a computer-generated three-dimensional image.
"It was confirmed that previously recorded footage was provided to the broadcasters for convenience and theatrical effects -- as in many other big events," Beijing organizing committee spokesman Wang Wei said. "On the day of the ceremony there were actual footprints of fireworks from the south to the north of the city.

Olympic Singer was lip-syncing
BEIJING, China (CNN) -- A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard.
Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed "Ode to the Motherland" as China's flag was paraded Friday into Beijing's National Stadium, was not singing at all.
Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough.
"The reason was for the national interest," said Chen Qigang, the ceremony's musical director, in a state radio interview. "The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. ... Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects."
The decision was made at the highest levels, Chen said.
"We had to do it," he said. "We'd been through several inspections. They're all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were several spectators from various divisions, especially leaders from the Politburo, who gave the opinion it must change."

China has always been a country that wants to impress us. That was the whole point of thier opening ceremony display; to impress us at all costs. I was impressed by the fireworks show. They might have been embarresed about the girl singing, so they had another girl who was "cuter" sing for them.

Wow!! Thats bad.
I could tell the fireworks were faked though. I saw it on my tv and it looked like spf. In fact, my family had a long chat over whether they were fake. And about the lip syncing? Thats even worse!
Its terrible that both those bits of news have come out, Personally.

My dad told me about this earlier.
I can't believe it.
The real girl who was singing, the reason why she wasn't show sickens me.
ENG£43 million when into the cermeny, just to find fireworks faked, and a lip-sycing girl.
How could they?

That is not right not putting a little girl in the Olympics to sing just because she " wasn't cute enough". That's a disgrace and they should be ashamed.

Wow.
The first time i saw those footstep fireworks, I thought it looked fake. So I am right.
They looked like something out of a game.
Thats pretty mean not letting that girl who actually sang to not go on stage because she isn't that cute. Harsh..
I wonder what will happen if everyone found out.

Wow, can't believe people care that much. It's not about the ceromony, it's about the sport. Who cares about the little girl, she is irrilivant in the grand scheme of things. And the fireworks were pre-recorded? I for one don't care at all. It's the actualt sport that matters to me, not the display.

Yeah, I don't really care about the display either. I just like to see which countries have the best swimmers, divers, gymnastics, etc.
As it said in the quote, yes they are pre-recorded. If you can't put on a good display on TV, there is no need to ruin your reputation by putting FAKE stuff for everyone to see.

I could tell that the fireworks part was 3D, pre-recorded and that's okay in my opinion. But having a little girl being lip-synced, that's like wow. It looks real bad for China. They could have at least mentioned it after the games were over.
Always
12 August 2008, 08:24 PM
Some of the fireworks were real. The only reason most of them were pre-recorded was because of safety. There were helicopters flying around the stadium shooting the video. Thats why most were pre-recorded, they didn't want to shoot any of the helicopters down.

If China wants to ruin their name then go ahead. Im not stopping them. I dont really care about the fireworks, but the little girl think was jacked. I mean, just because someone was not cute enough they cant be in the olympics?! This world has something wrong.

"Empty Seats"
It turs out that the Beijing Games didn't sell every ticket for some events. So, to make the stand look full on TV, the got officials to sit in the stands, to make it looks full.

I learned all this on the 11th on the news, and guess what? I wasn't suprised. They said that the girl who actually sung the song was, "too old", wheras when I looked, she looked younger than the girl who actually sung! Computerization on TV, how did they manage to do that over lots of channels all over the world? That confuses me. And, putting officials in the seats to make it look more full? That is weird. But China has always wanted to impress, and it is what is to be expected of them. They wanted it to go off without a hitch, and they did everything in their powers to do so. What a suprise! It's on the news again.... Oh, and Pen Rua, you wrote a spelling error. It says, "full of TV", when it should say, "full on TV"!

Faking isn't nice, but it happens all over the entertainment industry. Photos are touched up, some bands have their voices enhanced or changed to make them sound better. Is it really that much of a surprise that an event like the Olympics would have some of these things?

I wouldn't say it is faked, as from the reports on TV I've seen it sounds more like a last minute deal kinda thing with volunteers. They stay and watch the whole event, for free, even if they haven't seen the event they are watching before. I think that the tickets actually did sell out, but for some they didn't want to see the event they managed to get tickets for. Personally, the crowds they have got in seem interested and I think it is a good idea to fill seats if the original buyers don't show or there are empty seats.

It doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not more disappointed in the chinese government than I was before.
I'm morally opposed to the concept anyway.

Actually, the fire works we saw were faked, but they really did happen. They had the footprints leading to the stadium except, like all fireworks, they explode at different angles. So they would have had to use a bunch of different camera angles, and they wanted a sweeping shot. So they did really happen, we just saw the faked ones on TV.
As for the lip syncing, it's sad China thinks they have to have a cute girl in order to "impress" us. The singing was amazing, and I really wouldn't have cared if the girl wasn't as cute. Then again, I think almost all little kids are cute!

I have said this for a long time. I think China and USA will eventually go to war. I think Japan, like Kogeck said, was just trying to impress us. I think they are jealous of the USA in a way and now that everyones laughing in their face because they got figured out, I think the war is soon to come. And thats bad because USA would most likely lose. Strengths in numbers.

To me? It dosn't matter. People shouldn't make a big deal out of it. China has always been high-tech and they want to make everything perfect. Like Kogeck said, they just want to impress the rest of the world. So what if they digitally enhanced it. People photoshop photos right? Same diff. It is all irrelevant. Don't get worked up over things like this. It is just the opening ceremonies right? Would you rather have a bad fireworks show and a bad singer or something? Get over it. It is over and done with. It is just the opening ceremonies. It has no relevance whatsoever to the Olympics in General. Just that it is the opening ceremonies. And everyone thinks China is so bad? Many, many other people have been caught so you can't blame anyone country etc. for it. Besides, they only did it for your viewing pleasures, so instead of having a fit, just appreciate it.

It's china thats your subject, not japan.
I for one, found that extremely offensive. Not for the fact your expressing your opnion, but for the fact you haven't done any country relations or past wars research before you concluded "oh, china's gonna go to war with the US cause they tried too hard and are jealous". You go and say "china is jealous of the US", but do you know that for sure? No, but it's pure whatever. When you say "A war is gonna break out because of jealousy", then you make so sense. Don't try to play politics. Nobody is going to attack anybody because a little girl was fake. And nobody is gonna attack anybody because people laugh at them. You'd think the world would be dead by now if that happened, eh?
And no, the US wouldn't loose because China has a lot more people. Sure, they have a chance, but safety is not in numbers when you have all these special airplanes and nukes around in your army.

That is complete B.S.
The chinese government is in no way jealous of us, THEY OWN ALL OF OUR MONEY. Heck, they could do it today if they would like.
And your right if there was a war between China and America today, America would lose because who do you think buys all of our equipment for us?

15 August 2008, 12:37 PM
Well, yeah I suppose it's quite bad that they did that stuff but at the end of the day, it was quite good and there's no point bad-mouthing them.
China just wanted to make it nice or 'perfect' for us and they must've spent ages preparing this for practically the whole world, so I don't think it's that big of a deal.
Tbh, we should kinda be grateful because you can't say the opening ceremony was terrible and yeah, it's only an opening ceremony so we shouldn't really need to get worked up about it.
And anyways, the real girl who sang the song is probably happy she's got a forum about her. Lolz.
So yeah, that was only a bit of the opening so you cannot judge the whole thing- the other parts were good as well.

And I didn't mean China is the bad person here. I really like China. I actually think that stupid idiot in the White House has made USA look like a bully. We shouldn't be in Iraq. And my uncle is in Iraq and I would hate to think he's gonna die because of some idiot. anyway
And to the first person who quoted me, are you mental? I didn't say it's over jealousy ok? I said China is getting tired of people making fun of them. I don't blame them. People are making fun of them just because they wanted to make us happy with a perfect girl to sing and a firework show. And I can pretty much promise China would win. All the people are there AND they are smart. So next time think before flaming someone because they stated there opinion.

Who the hell is making fun of china? "Racism" will always be alive. You must the squinting eyes kind of making fun of. And as I said before, Nobody in their right minds would start a war just because the opening cerimonies were partly faked and they recieved backlash.
And Oh my freaking god. I don't care what your opnion is, i've stated in my post that you need to do some country relations research and some about past wars, both WW1-2 and ancient. Do you have any idea how politics works other than the surface of what the news covers + your teenager experiences?

I like to fight back aswell, but I'm saying that before you go off saying that wars or anything related to politics, You need to do actual sensible research instead of doing what you what do. Yes, China would fight back if the US apparently attacked them first if that's what your saying. But they won't do anything just because of some people shaking their heads.
