What is this paint can?

I came across this in an old inventory screen shot. Does anyone know what it is?

I am thinking (and I could be wrong) that this is how penguin colors originally showed up in the inventory instead of the color blobs now.

I only started playing in January so am not sure all of what happened in the past.

Basketball paint can. I believe if i can remember
it painted a basketball half circle on your ground.;)

I thought it was for your penguin because I didn't see the inventory pictures, I know what item it is now.
