I've been doing some thinking about the "Above the Influence" commercials. I noticed that (IMO) they seem to exaggerate everything that the drugs do to you. For example; in one of the commercials the kids take turns getting kicked by a donkey. It's plain stupid, it has nothing to do with smoking or taking drugs. I know alot of people who do drugs and lead perfectly normal lives. I just wanted to know if you think those commercials exaggerate too much, or do you agree completely with them.
Seemed like an interesting topic, so
Discuss.

Yes they over exagerate, but there point is valid. The commercials are supposed to be funny so that people will actually listen to them.

those commercials are weird , especially the one with the kid who makes a cocoon out of green leaf stuff.
But I like their point, no drugs! :D

Maybe the best commercial to prmote non-drug usage is images of people who were badly affected by drugs. That would give the point strong.

I think they exaggerate drugs and the effects in a funny way so people will actually listen. Drugs are dangerous, and so is getting kicked by a donkey or building a green cocoon. Most have hidden inferences.

A lot of my friends smoke weed and some of them are fine, however some of them f'd up their lives from it. If they need to exaggerate to get the message across on something like this then i think it's okay.

OT: Do you have to use two amersands instead of and? i really hate it when people do that to look scene or prep or whatever. It makes no sense.

They are trying to prove a point in strange ways to make you understand smoking and drinking isn't for you.

Good responses. However, here's what I think.
Most of the commercials for ATI are about smoking pot,
but, all my friends or people I've met who smoke, don't have
any problems accept they always smile and do weird high people
things. I think the commercials would make more sense
if they were about things like cocaine, alcohol, and meth, etc.
it's drugs and alcohol like that, that causes the most problems in
our world.

i heard on the radio this song called "Lets go smoke some weed" or something like that and it was pretty bad and i don't think ANYONE should do drugs ever and if it was not bad for the law i would say its there chooice but right now nobody is allowed to.

The only reason marijuana is illegal is due to the fact
that you can't put a tax on it (it can be grown.) From what
I've seen and heard from documentaries, movies, and more
it doesn't harm you at all. Although other drugs will.

I like the one were the tobacco companies say that women would like smaller babies because tobacco ruins their growth.

The tobacco commercials are a little more entertaining, and make more (real-life) sense.

Well, i see the point in the donkey ATI commercial. They are pretty much saying that if your high or on crack that you do stupid things. But, yes, it is a slight exaggeration. But the commercials are trying to be funny so people will pay attention to them.

I think that the commercials should stop going after weed because after seeing the movie "Super High Me" I have realised that it has nearly no health cocequences, the guy had been smoking it for 17 years and the doctor couldnt even find any damage done to his body because of it. Also there has not been one case ever of someone dieing directly from weed ever.

That's the 30 day sober, 30 day high movie right? I saw that,
that movie actually proves that you are more concentrated, and
smarter when you're high. Idk if it's all true, or if it was luck, but
it seemed believable, I watched it start to finish. :D

Yeah that's the movie I'm talking about, ever since I watched it I can't get the song at the end out of my head.

Um, well I think that maybe there is just a little too much of that drug war propaganda floating around, and I don't really care what people do with their lives. Whether they smoke, or they don't.
It is true that most people who smoke pot, live pretty normal lives, they might just smoke a joint every once in awhile. I've met some, and they're pretty average. It hasn't really affected them from what I can see. The problems really come in if you get addicted... But whatever, no one high has ever hurt me in any way, shape or form.

Acctually, you can't really get "addicted" to pot.

There is no nicotine, you can't get addicted, if you do it's mentally,
just from telling yourself that you NEED it.

they're trying to say that like what they r doing, doing drugs is stupid too. They are comparing stupid things to doing drugs to say that drugs are just as pointless and dumb

Some commercials can be crazy and really get people into the commercial and tell them smoking isn't right.

Eh.
I think to some they might influence people more than they would than to reduce it.
I have been to the website it's really stupid kinda.

Yeah, but some drugs you can get off the street are laced with nicotine. (Or so I've been told.)

I think they're exaggerated but they do get the point across. The newest one I've seen is the one with the kid wearing all the shirts saying "what's the point?" "it's not me" sometimes the commercials annoy but I know they send a strong message.

I agree with that. They should show images of people who have used Meth for years. That would leave a lot of scary thoughts in their minds about drugs.

I'm pretty sure that would break the censorship laws of television

Not really, if you can see those people on the streets anyway, it can't be illegal to show them on TV, although I doubt anyone would give a commercial permission to film how ugly drugs have made them.
