Hello, and welcome to my tutorial.
I assume you are a newcomer at Paint.NET, and want to learn how to make something cool. If thats the case, your in the right place! We are going to make something like this: clicky (http://i38.tinypic.com/2lad1fn.png). This tutorial is done on a PC. Let's get started.
1) Download Paint.NET by clicking here (http://www.getpaint.net).
2) Before we move on, I ask you to 'fiddle' around with Paint.NET.
3) Before we go on, download the LightRays effect here (http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5231). Now, goto Start>My Computer. Now, next to address, paste this: C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects. (Without the period) If you don't see an address bar, goto View>Toolbars>Address Bar.
4) Now, copy the Lightrays .Dll file and paste it into the Paint.NET effects folder. (Make sure Paint.NET is closed while doing steps 3 and four.
5) Okay, let's get to the fun stuff! Make a new http://i34.tinypic.com/2h6d5b8.png 800 by 600. http://i33.tinypic.com/28tyip5.png.
6) Now, at the bottom left hand corner, you will see a colors box. If not, add it by going to Window>Colors.
7) Click on the top color box. It should say, 'Primary'. Change it to a dark blue. Now, click on the bottom color box. It should say, 'Secondary'. Change it to yellow. http://i34.tinypic.com/2n9j2j9.jpg
8) Now, simple press the ctrl and A buttons on your keyboard. It should select the whole area.
9) Go to Effects>Render>Lightrays.
10) Select the ray that comes from the bottom. If the rays do not fill up your whole area, don't panic! Just increase the length of the rays! Make sure Anti-Aliased and Filled are selected. Click okay.
11) Now, make a new layer by going Layers>Add New Layer.
12) Change the Primary color to black and the secondary color to white.
13) Select the fill bucket tool and next to where it says, 'Fill:', change that to Backward Diagonal.
14) Click anywhere in the work area, and you should see black backwards diagonal lines. Now, goto Layers>Layer Properties. Almost done!
15) Under blending, next to mode, select 'Overlay.' Now, lower the opacity until the diagonal lines and the rays look good. (Preferably 60) Click okay.
16) Now, add a new layer. Again, by going Layers>Add New Layer.
17) Change the Primary color to white, and select the rectangle tool.
18) Make a rectangle that fills up 45% of your work area. Now, goto Layers>Layer Properties. Lower the opacity 'till about 88.
19) Make a new layer.
20) Now, type your username in the lighted area by click on the Text tool. Click on your work area and type. If you wish to move your text, click and drag with the picture of the arrows. You can change your font, size, color, etc. You can download cool fonts here (http://www.dafont.com).
21) Save it as anyfilename.png. It will ask you a question and you should click flatten.
