Monkey Online

[BT06]

Monkey Online is a new, upcoming online game whre you can chat, hover around on hoverboards, and meet friends. You are a monkey in Moankey Online, if you weren't smart enough to catch that. ;) MO just released its alpha version a few hours ago, allowing us to make the post. Mnkey onlines alpha IS online, and you CAN chat. Right now, the graphics aren't done, so instead of being a monkey, you are a penguin. Sorry for the inconvience.

http://creatorchat.ej.am/other/chat.swf is the alpha test. We are trying to beef up our servers, so everybody log on so we can test our server limits! :D

Before you use the weak counter-arguement: do you know how hard it is to make an online game please note that I don't care, this is still what I think about it.

Well, first off, the monkey looks a LOT like a penguin, and the pole looks like something you ripped from penguinchat.com (http://penguinchat.com). The walk cycle is extremely hard and really I don't want to waste my time clicking over and over just so I get to walk to a place on your game. The chat should be something you can click on if it's going to look like that. My time on the game wasn't too enjoyable, believe it or not. I'm looking forward to the next version, but until it comes, this is the rating I stick with.

I don't think you quite understand too much either. Yes multiplayer is harder, but it shouldn't be an excuse. ElectroServer has a lot of code provided for you already and I wouldn't be surprised if this alpha is just a sample application that has been edited.

Yes, as a game programmer who has previously worked on games and is friends with many other programmers I do test alphas frequently.

Electrocercit, erm I have no idea what that is and neither does google (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=Electrocercit&meta=). I presume you mean Electro-Server, which does have tutorials and code. (Example) (http://www.electro-server.com/documentation/tutorials/es4/ConnectionLogin/connectionLogin.aspx)

I never mentioned SFS, you are using Electro-Server as the documents scattered in the directory and the pre loader show.

Finally about the amount of coding, the number of lines is never the most important thing and I find that claim hard to believe as my current game I'm working on is 2k lines. (Which is 3d and multiplayer, but not on edge of being released yet.) Unless of course you are including all the files that you haven't actually wrote, such as the ElectroServer client coding which by coincidence is around 2651 lines long.

The developers who made Club Penguin went through graphical design courses in college, and are experienced programmers who have made more games than just this one. It wasn't their first, I'll tell you that for a fact. Also, they put hours, days, months, no, YEARS into making this game. They released 4 versions, with each improving. They spent about 1000 dollars for the first three, and who knows how much for CP itself! You don't have the time, resources, or even the ability to create one of these games. I'm just warning you, this entire project won't even last out the summer probably. And if it does its just from people wanting to try it, but you'll keep on delaying and making excuses. Face it, its not worth the effort guys.

Yes, I agree I went a bit overboard. I was overly pessimistic, and for that I apologize. But I still stand firm that this project won't get off its feet.
