Rememberance

A short story.

As she stared blankly at the hole she had just made in the poor man's head she thought back to why she had done it. She thought back to her intentions of earlier. She though back to her old life... 3 years earlier.

2000

She walked past her house of twenty years and was happy with all that she had accomplished. A woman of 37, she walked to her favorite restaurant as she usually did. Today was a special occasion, however. She was meeting a very special friend and was going to tell him something she had kept secret. When she got there the greeter automatically pointed her in the direction her friend's table was. She walked over and greeted him. He stood, hugged her, pulled out her chair, and sat down along with her. Before he could get a word out she said "I have something to tell you!" He asked what it was and she began to speak. "Well.. for the past 10 years I have.. well... loved you. I cannot shake it, and don't want to. Being in love with you gives me something to run after with all of my heart!" She couldn't say anything else because another woman walked up behind the man. He said "Jane... this is my Fiance Anna..." She was destroyed. She looked at him, and then looked at her and back again. With a tear she said "Oh... I have to go." and rushed out the door.
Telling herself that it was nothing, that there were more people in the world she walked to her house. She walked in, sitting in her usual spot. She turned on the television, took off her shoes and drifted to sleep. She awoke around 3 the next morning in a cold sweat. She had had a dream that she knew was horrible, but couldn't remember it. She walked into her room staring at the empty bed that was always the same. She slinked into the bed and fell asleep again.

2001

She walked out of her house soaking in the beautiful weather. She loved the transitional period between Summer and Fall. She walked to her car and got in driving to the place she shouldn't have gone to. It was was a brisk September day as she drove to her appointment. It was around 8:00 AM when she heard something very loud. An airplane was flying lower than she had ever seen. Not thinking to look in the direction in which it was going she drove onward. She saw her destination. The twin towers. The tallest buildings in New York. She stopped, got out, and walked toward the entrance. Leaning over to pick the keys she had just dropped she saw the plane from earlier crash into the building. Dropping her keys once again she ran in the opposite direction. She ran down the street as fast as she could, looking back to see the building engulfed in flames. Watching the debree falling onto the victims below. Finally in safety she ran into another friend of hers she took refuge in his caring arms. Caressing her beautiful blonde head he told her everything was going to be alright. That she could live with him. She went with him, trusting him. They soon wed and lived in her house.

2002

She woke up around 6:30 and began to prepare breakfast. It was a cold Winter morning in early December. She set out her husbands coffee, eggs, bacon, and toast. Smiling because she loved how he'd always sit there telling her how much so-and-so made him angry, or how he wished his boss would just go ahead and promote him. She walked into their bedroom to give him a kiss and wake him up. He was sitting up stairing at the blanket that was covering him. "Good morning, dear" she said lovingly. No response. "Is everything alright?" she questioned with worry in her voice. "No." he said sternly. "Tell me what's going on. I would like to help." she said with a smile, walking closer. "I DON'T NEED ANY HELP!" he yelled getting up and pushing her out of the way. She nearly cried because of this, but she walked into the kitchen. She noticed something in his robe pocket. It was his pistol. "Sweetie.. why are you carrying that?" she said walking closer. "I can't take it anymore.. I can't take life. It's gotta end now." he said pulling the pistol out of his pocket. "No!!!" she exclaimed running for him. A simple click is all she heard seeing his body go numb and fall to the floor. She ran over and cried as the sirens got louder and louder.

Present

Standing with her gun in hand she walked into the bank. She walked in shooting the guard and a few other people before walking up to the one man that she thought started this. "You... you ruined my life and now you're going to pay." she said through tears. It was the man that had ruined her life 3 years ago. The man that told her he was getting married. She pointed the gun at his head and without emotion she pulled the trigger. He stood there for a few seconds. She stared at the hole in his head thinking of how much pain she had gone through because of him. Hearing the sirens come closer she made the final decision. "This is it.. this is my time." she said. The police walked in to see her pull the trigger that ended her life like it had ended so many others.

Hope you liked it.
