This thread should help you make a well organized shop. When I say 'Product' I am referring to what ever you are making.

CONTENTS
1.Getting Started
2.Examples
3.Hiring Helpers
4.Orders
5.Other

1.Getting Started-
Before you make a thread, you should have some examples of your work ready. You should also make some neat little signs that say 'open!', 'closed' and 'Busy'. Make sure that your product is good enough for people to use.
Ok, you have everything ready. Now come up with a catchy name for your shop. For example, if you are making little puffle drawings and scanning them on to your computer, you may call it "Playful Puffles". People will look at it because it's name is well thought up and shows what you are making.

2.Examples-Examples are used to show people your work. Most people just scroll through threads looking for nice examples, so its important you have them. You should put examples in your Sig+Avy, too. Make sure the examples show the best you can do. Many people are tired of all the same old penguin avys & sigs, so try something different! Use your imagination! for example, make avatars with puffles as the main feature, not penguins!

3.Hiring Helpers-Almost all shops hire helpers, so it is important you pick the right people for ther job. If someone who just posts:'MEMEMEMEME!!1! Can i pleseee b ur helper!!11!' and they seem inactive , you probally shouldn't pick them. However, if someone posts " I would like to help! I am very well at this type of thing.' and gives you some decent examples and seems active, you should probally let them help.

4. Orders-
You should have an organized list of orders. The list should say all the nessesary information. Take a look at this example:

My Orders:
-Dogzrocks34 (penguin with blue plaid shirt) Ordered on 2/02/07
-gurlygirl132 (puffle w/ big eyes and pink tie) Ordered on 2/03/07

That way you will know whos order to fill first and you will know exactly what they want.

5. Other-If you are going to scan pictures, make sure the are small enough to work as avatars.(trust me, its not fun to resize, and the picture doesn't look as nice)
If you are going to use you computer to make them, use a good program. Here are some recommended ones(in no order)
Pay:
Adobe Photoshop

Free:
Gimp
Paint.net(not the program thats already on your computer)
PD Pro Demo

Please try not to use Windows Paint. It's not a good program for making avatars and sigs. They probally won't turn out that good.

If they bore you, than why even bother reading them? You should read the whole thread before posting in it. But back on topic, this is a nice guide, it will help newer and maybe even older members who are new to the whole "Sig and Avvy Making" business start out. Keep it up.

I read them because I might need the information in the future, or I'm searching through them and scanning over some stuff while getting to what I really need. ;) What's up with the "You should read the whole thread before posting in it"? Because I do, unless it's like 100 pages, then I just look at the last few posts to see if I'm going to be still talking about the same topic and not out of the blue, and sometimes I may search for what I'm looking for in the thread and if nobodies asked the question, said the same thing, stuff like that then I'll post it.

Nice guide. This deserves a sticky, but I disagree with you on the 'hiring other helpers' section. If you want to go for just your type of sig, (like me =D) then I wouldn't hire anyone. (like me ;=D )
