What is “popular” according to a new user?
“Popular” is what most everyone is aiming to be on these forums, but that should not be your goal. Popular is currently defined as:
-Old Penguin
-Cool Items
-High Post Count
-Has a sticky on one of the forums
-And many more silly things
This is not popular. This is pathetic.
What should popular be?
Good users should be what everyone should be aiming to be. A genuine user who makes good posts, is helpful, and is fun is what popular should be. A new user could easily be more popular than someone with 10,000 posts if they help innocent newbs and are nice.
Why am I not popular? What am I doing wrong?
You may be trying to hard and doing too much. Don’t try to be popular. Just act normal and help people. That is what makes you popular. You most likely have the wrong idea.
What is wrong with people trying to be really popular?
When people try and be really popular, normally they try too hard. No one likes someone who only wants to be the fake popular. You look fake and you only make yourself less “popular.”
A. Spamming to raise post count
Often, post count is looked at as a number that defines popularity. That is why people spam to raise their post count. Believe it or not, most users can tell when someone is spamming to raise his or her post count. It doesn’t work, so don’t try it.
B. Trying too hard (Making useless guides, creating useless clubs, etc.)
Sometimes, people think that making a guide makes them popular. Or, having a club is cool. When you want to make a guide, you should spend time on your guide. Make sure it is the best you can make. If you’re making a club, make it the best you can. Don’t just create clubs to be cool. Take your time and do your best. This applies to most things you do on the forums.
C. Doing stupid things for attention
I’ve seen people do pretty stupid things for attention. Can you imagine how stupid a person feels when they’re busted for:
1. Faking a screenshot of how many coins he or she has, what items he or she has, faking how old his or she is, and more
2. Making a guide that doesn’t help at all
3. Making a lame club that gets rejected by everyone
4. Making a popular chart and putting yourself on it
5. And many more silly things.
This could be you. Once you’re busted, there’s no going back. You’re humiliated, so don’t try it.
D. Claiming to own "rare" items
This is one of the most common methods to try and be “popular.” Saying that you had rare items but your account was banned is hardly believable. Saying you have these rare items, but you really don’t. Do you know how silly this sounds? Yes, it is very silly. Items don’t judge popularity. Don’t fake having items. If you’re caught, you really can’t be respected by anyone.
E. Claiming to be an older penguin (Inflating age)
Sometimes, in the eyes of noobs, age judges coolness. This is just stupid and fake. There is no shame in telling when you joined, even if it wasn’t a long time ago. Lying about when you joined is not smart because normally, it’s not hard to tell when someone joined. Just don’t try.
F. Making your own popular chart
This is pathetic. Why make a “popular” chart in the first place? This just makes you look silly and stupid. Let people judge someone as they please. You telling them who is popular is not going to work. It’s also against the rules.
G. "Collecting Buddies"
Collecting buddies is trying to add people just because they’re “cool.” It’s done a lot, and normally, people do it just so they can say, “Hey, Vital Viper is my buddy!” It’s like collecting trading cards and it’s really silly.
H. Faking a Post Count
Any type of faking a post count can be considered an attempt to be popular. If you make your post count something like "12,995," then you're probably trying to be popular. Most users on the forum don't like users who fake a post count. Post count doesn't make someone popular.
I. Conclusion: Why this method doesn't work
Can’t you tell by now that this is just silly? Doesn’t it make people look pathetic? This method of being cool does not work, at all! Read below and you can find out what “cool” really is.
What can I do that will make me a good user that is popular?
You can be popular and be a good user. It’s not hard. Just be helpful, kind, and proud. Popular isn’t a bad thing if you take the right approach to being popular. The right approach involves helping people, making good posts, and not spamming.
A. Posting Habits (How to post)
When you post, you should make sure your post is worthwhile. Ask, “Does my post contribute to the topic?” If you answer no, don’t post. You shouldn’t spam and make bad posts. Making good posts > Having a high post count!
B. Spelling, grammar, capitalization, etc. in posts
Spelling, grammar, and capitalization all make posts better. It’s easier to understand if you say:
“Hi, my name is I Ate A Fish. I just joined Miniclip Forums. Thanks for welcoming me.”
Than . . .
“hi I 4/\/\ I 4t3 4 fI$|-| I r0cK h4r[)!one!1one!1eleven!!1!”
People will listen to you if you present your case well and you post well. Try not to use AIM talk.
C. Setting a name for yourself through kindness and helpfulness
Being kind and helpful is crucial if you want to be a good user. If someone needs help, don’t just call him or her a noob, help him or her. Even if his or her question is stupid, answer it. You can’t lose if you’re kind and helpful.
D. Be confident! Stand up for what you believe!
If you think something is wrong, say so. Of course, you should be polite, but you still can stand up for your opinion. Don’t back down! Even if this user is “popular” don’t be afraid to say your opinion.
E. Conclusion: Why this method DOES work!
If you can successfully fulfill all of the above methods, then you will be a good user. You can contribute a lot to Miniclip if you try! Don’t try too hard to be popular and spend more time on helping others.

I get asked "Vital Viper why are you so popular?" all the time. The answer, because I do the things that this thread suggests. Good job I Ate A Fish.
This thread has the Vital Viper seal of approvial, lol!

I have added a link to this guide to my sticky. I hope you all study both threads carefully
Wow! This is the best guide I ever read. I didn't think any thing could be perfect, but you changed my mind. This guide is perfect. You should be in the "Good guides hall of fame" 1000/10!
Incredible guide, very well written, and 100% True
Excellent guide Fish. Monks is wrong, this is very needed, the desire for populairty is what causes all the spam.
Of all the guides I've seen on the CP Forum, this one takes the cake as the best I've ever seen! Great work I Ate A Fish! Personally, I couldn't care less about my post count, and I always just be myself! If I have zero coins, I say "I've got no coins at all" without a second thought, personally. Also, I saw no typos or mistakes in the guide either! Excellent, 13/10!
Nice guide he who ate a fish. Wonderfully created, you obviously spent a lot of time on it. Bunnyboy123 should be forced to read this guide.
Like Vital said, it helped a lot because its like a candy coated version of the rules. When people can relate the rules to real life examples on these forums, then people will listen and learn--otherwise, they could care less.
I love your word-choicing.
Overall I couldn't find any 'oopsies', but I'm sure Gamerboy can.
Unless I start getting really picky no.
Conclusion
Thanks for reading, everyone, and I hope this guide helped you. If you have any suggestions post them here, please. If you see a mistake, tell me. If you think something should be added, tell me.
