Hello! Welcome to the Surfer's Ultimate Guide to Catchin' Waves, one of the most popular games on Club Penguin. I'm belly994, Team Leader of the Club Penguin Surf Team originally created by Freebee93. If you love to surf, or want to know how to become a better surfer, you have come to the right place. Below, I have created a beginner/intermediate's guide on how to surf. Enjoy!
Beginner's Guide on How to get Started

So, you're new to surfing? Welcome aboard! Before surfing you will need a good board. If your not a member, you can still surf. However, you will be using the "free board" that is yellow with a red stripe. This board goes slower, and you also won't be able to get as much air when preforming tricks & flips. If you are a member, go to the sports shop (at the ski village) and go to the page with the selection of boards.

Both the flame & the daisy board are basically the same, just different designs. They will allow you to go higher in the air, and carve faster.
There is another board, too. Some of you might now about it, and some may not. This "special" board is hidden on the same page where you can get the flame & daisy board. It costs 800 coins, but is definaly worth it. It allows you to go even faster than the flame and daisy boards, and higher yet. If you would like to get this board, click around on the page. Otherwise, highlite below:
Click the flame surfboard that the green penguin is holding (in the catalogue page)
Then, click either the starfish or the clam that is on the snowy ground by the penguin's feet. Whichever one you did not click; click it next. The sliver board should appear.
Now that you have a board, it's time to surf! Don't get to eager now, you may want to read the instructions before surfing. I suggest first playing the "Surf Lesson." This really helped me when I started out, and it's really basic and easy to follow when getting prepared for freestyle. After you follow the instuctions & complete the surf lesson, you are ready to start freestyle. (See below for more)
How to Surf Freestyle
Freestyle is one of the easier ways to get started. It's not only to get started though, it's also a very quick way to make a lot of coins. Since I didn't know how long freestyle lasted for, I decided to make an experiment:
I went surfing on freestyle, and did three trials to get an accurate time. See my trials below:
Trial 1: 2:56
Trial 2: 2:40
Trial 3: 2:49
Average time: 2:48
(These results are based off of a stop watch I used. They are NOT completely accurate, but probably close. The average time freestyle lasts is approx. 2 minutes & 50 seconds.)
On Freestyle, you basically just surf for fun and practice your "tricks." This is a very good way to get started, because later on, you will be very good at completing Competitions and Survival mode. Freestyle is also a great way to identify your highscores. When I first started surfing, and when I was a non-member, I could only do a few flips. When I became a member, however, I started tracking how many flips I could do. Today, my record is still 14 flips (with the sliver surfboard.)
Air Tricks
Whenever preforming air tricks, you will want to do a combination of keys. For example, you don't only want to do the up arrow, but instead maybe you would do the up & down arrows at the same time. By doing this, you are increasing your amount of coins earned for your tricks.
