View Full Version : I Built a Ship!

Purple Pirate
11 February 2008, 07:50 PM
Using shoe racks, candelabras, coat hooks, rugs and a parot cage, I have created my own ship- the Voyager, in my igloo. It will be open in afternoons on weekdays in Wind Chill. I can't give an exact time but probabally between 4:30 GMT and 6:00 GMT. Please say how I could improve my ship and what you think of it. :rockhopper:

Nice idea Purple Pirate. The candelabra loos sorta funny though. If you have the pirate flag, try remaking the boat near the wall & then iusing that as a flag! :D

A well made igloo. I see that you're the kind of penguin who tries to build a theme where none exists. Well, great igloo. If you want a rating, you'll have to go through my grading guide. I'll start it here. In case you want to skip it out, my average rating for you was 55%, which is quite good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shape

The shape of the benches creating the igloo is coarse and could be better, since you have not defined a head or have a pointed top. It looks like an overall circle with some points on it. The redeeming fact is that the benches are placed so that the points are minimized, making the ship as circular as possible.

Rating: 3/10

Design

The benches are perfectly symmetrical and are well-aligned. The triple-point coat hook in the middle is well placed and is an excellent choice, as well. Finally, the carpets are extremely well-placed, so that it is hard to see a gap between them. However, the raggedness of the sea is partially incorrect and you will never find it in a real sea (I mean the alignment of the waves, or, in most parts, lack thereof).

Rating: 8/10

Cost

What can I say? You've built the ship out of the most expensive materials out there. You've tried to keep obtrusiveness to a minimum by using only two rugs. You added an extra set of candles and a set of sharks in the sea. There's little I can say here.

Rating: 10/10

Outward Appearance

Your ship and its surroundings do not blend in well with the rest of your igloo. You should have added a little more sea. The numerous sharks will probably scare people away. Finally, again, the shape of the benches and their alignment does not resemble a boat. I'm afraid that here, all good that I can say is that the coat rack resembles a flag mast.

Rating: 1/10

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the criticisms; just try and remember they're all there to help make your ship perfect. I look forward to seeing your next attempt, which I will again grade, probably using a bit more thought to look for mistakes.

Yours sincerely,
Game Lord

I won't give it a full rating right now, but for now, my only advice is have a little more pileup (pile the benches on top of each other a bit more), change the furniture to be more like a ship, add some sea and add some more realistic rugs (and take away the ones underneath the benches!). Overall, I give it 3/10 (I would give it 2/10, but the well-placed fish, the coat rack and the blue of the surrounding space in your igloo made sure it got a 3/10 ... Which is not too bad, but there's certainly room for improvement).

Yours sincerely,
Game Lord

I've been taught to give full answers and full, thorough answers with reasons for what I say. That's what happens when you take a Masters Degree. It's also the reason for my correct grammar, spelling and sentence structure.

Lol. I can see the stupid humour part. And what do you expect of a forum for a kids' game? Its obviously the best attitude for someone on this forum to take ... I guess. I can't really, I've seen 'too much of the world' to be that light-hearted.

And to all mods, please excuse my off-topic posts. I don't have anything to post about.

Yes, I liked it as well, but it's not enough for me to give me an extra point. It is well-placed, but not really necessary and looks slightly strange from the outside, so I would have probably given him an extra 2% if I rated him in percentage.

Wait a minute ... That's you!
