View Full Version : (1-28-8) Thinking About My Birthday
Vital Viper
28 January 2008, 11:42 PM
Well earlier today when I got the mail I noticed I had already gotten two Birthday cards. One was from my church (expected) and the other was from my father (unexpected).
As I'm SURE you all know my Twenty First Birthday is coming and I'll be able to buy beer legally. I also don't drink, so a lot of good that will do me . I really don't feel 21. It seems like not too long ago I was the age most of you guys are here looking forward to a bright future. Boy does time fly. Last year turning 20 really got me down, and I'm not sure this year will be much different. I'm very mature but I tend to enjoy things like CP more than going out and partying/drinking like most people my age. I guess that contributes to me not feeling very old.
Back to the unexpected card. Well it was rather unexpected. My parents divorced back when I was 13 and despite living with him for a few months I lost a lot of respect for him because of the way he treated my mother throughout the divorce. He cheated on my mom, and then decided that he wanted the other girl more so he demanded a divorce. 13 years of marriage all down the drain. Obviously we don't talk much at all and it's been years since we have seen each other. I don't even recall getting Birthday cards for any of the last few birthdays from him.
I probably read to much into words that are written to me because I tend to think about the words and what the could have said as well as what they really mean by what their saying. The hand writing (thats all that really matters because it's about what they say not about what the actual printed text on the card says) simply said:
"Have a safe and wonderful 21st B-Day we love you!"
and then it was signed by my dad, his replacement wife, and my half sister.
What exactly is he trying to say by choosing safe and wonderful? I could only translate the safe part to think that maybe he thinks I may try to drink and drive or something. The customary feeling word for a birthday would be happy, so wonderful just seemed like a weird thing to say. So logically they want my day to be full of wonder, meaning they want me to think a lot on my birthday? I know I sound nit picky but it seems that who ever did choose those words didn't think of me while writing them but rather a typical stereotype of someone my age. I don't think my Dad wrote it, I think his wife did. Which makes the last part really meaningless to me. I honestly feel they don't love me, yet alone know me.
I'm not sure what to think.

I would feel protective, as you are, for the sake of your mother's feelings. But, I mean he is your father and he loves you, so just think whatever your heart feels.
^Corniest paragraph in exsistance.
On a happier note, no 21st birthday can be depressing, so go clubbing with your friends. XD
Have an awesome 21st.

You should try calling your dad to see if he wrote that, I mean, if it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. After all, you might be at his funeral in the next five minutes.

I'm not really the clubbing type but my younger brother is, sad I know
I'm almost scared to find out what his plans for my birthday are, lol.

I'm sure calling him would be the 'right thing to do' but it's simply not that easy.
If he did die I think the funeral may be in a different state than the one I am in, so I probabbly wouldn't be able to go to it if I wanted to.
Well, VV, im pretty sure ur not one of those idiots who drink 24 bottle of boo's on b-day 21. Just dont let the card get you down. Just enjoy this time with your friends and stuff, and thats all i gots to say
Yea I have always said that I wouldn't drink even after it was legal for me to do so. I don't drink, smoke, or any of the other addictive things that are harmful to my body (unless you count fast food :P).
Well last year I was alone for my birthday which probably contributed to the me feeling bad about it.
.:Ooingo:.

You know what I am just going to send up a bunch of pictures with numbers instead of a card with words so you can see and understand exactly what I am sending you.
Just a tip though, when you get what I'm sending it. Open it (the box) and then open it (the gift). You'll see what I mean, otherwise if you try to use it then it'll blow up or something.

I was their first child, yes.
Most married couples have a baby shortly after being married

If you cut the Yellow Wire before either of those it's going to explode man. Let's just leave this place, we have 1:00 min to burn some rubber and hit the ground runnin'... just dont forget those Hershey Kisses over there, man.

Does it really do you any good to be thinking so deeply into it?
Unless you ask them about it outright then you won't really know the kind of meaning that was involved in it.
Just be thankful you got one at all perhaps, seeing as you aren't all that close.
I've found that some peope go their whole lives trying to get a partner or parent to love them in the way that seems right and at the end of the day,it can often be a dissapointing trial.
They often DO love you but can't show it very well.
I'm sure he must be very proud inside.:)

"You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people ALL of the time." (who said that?) I think that applies to family as well. My grandmother always tells me to look deep inside myself and figure out what I need to do to "please" myself. She doesn't mean the latest Xbox game. She says I need to be who I am and be happy with who I am and not try to be everything to everyone else. Yes, right now I need to please my parents (my room is pretty messy:P) but I get awesome grades.:D I will be on my own some day and need to begin to know who I am when I get there. LOVE my grandmother!!! She's a sage!!
HAVE A GREAT BIRTHDAY, MY FRIEND!!!

Happy birthday, Vital Viper. I think its cool you wont go into the party/drinking lifestyle, because I will never. It makes me really happy inside, Im not kidding. I dont beleive there are that many people such as you and me in the world anymore. Live by the Word of the Lord and keep on the good path, and all these other people who live a bad lifestyle will never reach the height of happiness and sucess you will acheive, Vital Viper. God bless you on your journey through life.

21 and no beer? Weak man. Well anyways, your dad sent you a card. That's nice. Like every card that I get, I wonder one thing, and I'm gonna ask you it as well. Did you get any money? :D Well you said you have not talked to your dad in years. Maybe he wants change? My grandparents split when my mom was 3 and my mom never saw my grandfather. They never really got close until he was old. It was more of a shame.

I think deeply into almost everything, I can't help it.
My mom says he remembered my 21st birthday because now he won't have to pay child support anymore
Can some people be TOO good at showing they care, thats what I think I do sometimes.
I hope you will have a super birthday Vital Vip!

My brother says he is going to take me out on my birthday but I'm not sure what he has planned. If I do log in on my birthday I'll be sure to let the crowds know :P no planned party at least.

Both my grandmothers are deceased. It is good advice but is actually hard for me to follow. I've become such a people pleaser that pleasing other people has turned into what I like doing
I guess thats the question I'm dealing with "Who am I?"

I'm glad SOMEONE else finds that cool because I often get criticized for not taking part in such activities. I hope my happiness will be coming soon, I'm tired of waiting, lol.

The weak man gives in to temptation. Nope no money in either of them. I think he is happy with his new life. Maybe when I do get older I'll attempt to patch things up.

They wouldn't let me send it as media. I said it was video tapes and they asked why it was six pounds if it was just video tapes. I then said it was because I had a small VCR in there. Apparently that doesn't qualify as "media mail" so they made me ship it as parcel post. (Don't worry, I didn't actually buy you a VCR and tapes but that would be hilarious if I did.)
