Well last night I was channel surfing trying to find something to fall asleep to when I ran across a rebroadcast of Miss America 2007. "Great" I said to myself "This should be boring enough." I guess I was wrong because I ended up watching Miss Oaklahoma win and fell asleep to some late night comedy show.
My mistake was that I did something that always stops me from getting to sleep, it's called thinking. And I happen to do a lot of it. I'll have to say most of my (logical) thinking stoped during the swim suit competition, I wonder why? Any way I just realized how judgemental we are as a society. There they were 52 beautiful women on stage and as each one came up to say their name all I could find myself doing is looking for 'flaws' and making fun of what they chose to wear. I'm not a judgemental person eather, I guess I was just overtaken by the 'game' that is trying to pick the MOST beautiful.
Honestly who are we to judge what the perfect woman (or man for that matter) is? How do we know that because someone can look good in a dress/bathing suit, sing/dance/play a piano well, and show a moderate desire to want to help the world that THEY are the perfect woman? Our society values such odd things don't you think? Except thats the exact problem. WE DON'T think, we just say "well thats the way it is." and if you don't conform you just arn't normal. In this way things don't change, in fact they only worsen.
I just hate the result of this on the individual level. The average person isn't any where near 'Miss America' and really and truelly they don't have to be. We just set a standard of perfection that effectively demoralizes almost everyone. You are who you are. And you are the BEST you out there. Does anything else matter? So I guess what I'm trying to say is not to let society change who you are. Be YOU, and be proud of it.
On this note I would like to run for president :P
