The original "Ask RFS" thread (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=21442) made it to 75 pages before it was closed and unpinned.

This new thread is for the same purpose. Do you have any general forum questions that you have been itching to know the answer of but didn't want to make a whole new thread for it? Feel free to ask your question(s) in here and I'll respond soon (or when time allows). Serious questions only, please, nothing like "lol wut kind of pie u liek". I'll answer anything you want to know about the forums but please take into consideration these guidelines on what I will ignore/not answer:

- Do not ask why (username) was Banned/Permabanned.
- Browse the thread to see if your question has already been asked.
- Don't ask me about things that go on in the Staff's forum, I can't and won't give details.

Second: what is the max numbers of letters that can be put in one post?

Question 1: If you have nothing else in your signature I believe the maximum is five.
Question 2: 30,000 characters is the maximum number you can have in one post. Usually this is only hit by people who are writing a story.

why can we only have 6 images in 1 post and can we double post if we need to to put all the images in?

The limit was raised to six images so that users in the Pokemon forum could post their complete battling teams (of six Pokemon) and post their attacks and stats with them. If you have a bunch of images to post you can double post if you want to [img] tag them all, but if you have a LOT of pictures that's gonna take up 3 or 4 posts worth, perhaps it would be better to just post a list of links. ;)

FunnyBoy was given an infraction as a joke when he accidentally did not read on of the pinned threads when we had the reptile forum last December. Other than that we/I haven't had any problems with Moderators being rude to other users or doing things that would get them into trouble.

why was the "whos online" removed from the bottem of the forum index?

Mostly for visual purposes, it looked pretty cluttered and ugly to see a giant BLOCK of usernames below, it was already really of no use because it didn't really tell much of anything. Just took up space. It was also acting as another variable that the forum server needed to keep up with and display, so it was also shut off to lighten server loads.

The block thing at the bottom is really only useful if the forum has about 10-20 people active at a time on average. When you get into 50-100+ then it's just crazy and doesn't really do anything. It's not as organized as the "Who's Online" tab either, so that's another reason why Iit was shut up. "Who's Online" lists everybody in a row and says what he/she is doing. :P

A lot of advertisement bot accounts get banned within seconds of registering.

As for "shortest lived" by number of posts before being banned I believe we had a couple of users post in the "I'm new thread" saying their age, which was 12 or less. They were banned after 1 post.

A lot of the accounts all register with the same IP or email service, so we try to keep them out by banning those IP's and email providers (don't worry it's always something random and foreign that they sign up with, usually from Russia).

From time to time I review the newest registered users, and sometimes the "Newest registered user" at the bottom of the page will be something like "CHEAP MEDS" or something, so I ban the account on the spot.

Everything in there is considered "classified" unless we release it publicly. We don't talk trash about users or anything in there, usually we just chat about updates and ideas.

Well do Advert. Bots just SPAM like 20 posts or something with Advertisement?

Some of them do, you may have seen a few posts like that, but a lot of them register and then do not post. They sometimes never post or they wait it out and post sometime in the future. Regardless we ban them all.

Who started Miniclip? How did you get a job working for them?

Miniclip was founded by Robert Small and Tihan Presbie (I know I spelled that poor guy's name wrong :(). I got the vBulletin administration job with them in August 2006 after I had been chatting with Ben about useful upgrades and plugins for the forum. Ben had visited RFSHQ's forums a couple of times and seen examples of some of these ideas being used (we also use vBulletin) so later on I was asked for the job. :)

Would I get an infraction for advertising the link to a previous thread I created in my own thread?

No that's ok. "Internal links" (links to other threads here) is ok.

Where I come from, being an assistant to someone breaking the law makes you just as guilty as him/her, so we'd appreciate it if we knew who is and isn't underage, because as mentioned before, it's not a RULE, it's a LAW.

RFS, how often are you on Club Penguin?

When the forums were first opening I was on from time to time mostly just to be at people's parties so they knew that I was a Moderator who actually cared what was going on in the community. Today though I'm a little too caught up working on the forums and other stuff so I am not on as frequently anymore.

You can have children under the age of thirteen LEGALLY join a forum provided the parent(s) give permission for their child to do so. (Which means signing a COPPA form and faxing it to the website.)

If the website allows children under the age of 13 to join without getting a COPPA permission form signed, then that website is illegally allowing underage users to join.

And for anyone who asks, I do not believe that Miniclip allows underage users to join via COPPA. (I may be wrong though.)

That's all correct except for the seconed paragraph. COPPA is a USA law and although a few other countries have an adapted version, it isn't international. Some other game sites allow legally under 13s to join.

The website from the announcement I had posted was encouraging users to lie and enter false information. Other websites such as Xanga knew full and well that they had underaged users joining but they chose to not do anything about it.

Well I am not sure I can help you with those questions since I do not work on the Club Penguin game, just the forums, but I'll see what I can do.

1. Club Penguin's items and furniture are designed by a team of Flash programmers and artists.

2. I'm not sure which person specifically came up with the Puffle.

3. I believe Rockhopper is just a scripted program that automatically visits different places in Club Penguin. Somebody has to log him in and turn him on but that's about it.

I do have Flash. I have Macromedia Flash MX 2004, I got it a long time ago at a student rate. I originally used it to create shorts for Star Syndicate over at Newgrounds, but now I use it mostly to create company production logo bumpers and introduction sequences (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9kYdf-09mU) for video projects I work on.

I wouldn't know where to get the trial from though, I know that Adobe only needs your email for confirmation purposes or something.

I think you need to make it where you get five all at one time, then you get permad. Or banned twice. Like, you get four infractions and your banned once, four more and you're banned twice! Get it?

The problem there is that infraction ranks will expire after 10 days, so it's hard to get them all at once. In some cases infractions and bans are paired up, at least that's how it is for more serious offenses.

Does an ''Naughty Penguin'' rank give you 1 point?

Naughty Penguin isn't worth any points, but users with that rank cannot use avatars or signatures.

Just make sure you aren't tripping up on that 25 characters thing. That's the worst and most common one. The infraction system is a total piece of junk and needs to either be reworked or thrown out.

Well because of proper security measures I don't give out passwords to email addresses that were not used to register forum accounts. I have every right to believe that the person posting as "Generalflopy Pwns" is actually indeed that person, however there is also the chance that it's not and is someone attempting to steal the account (this of course is why we do not encourage the act of account sharing in the first place). I apologize if that sounds awful to you but I can't risk people's accounts getting stolen by people claiming to be that person.

Do you still have access to that email address used to register the forum account?

Hey RFS, when you report someone to a moderator, which one does it go to?

It goes to all Moderators and Administrators. Reports are posted as new threads in a private "Reported Posts" forum. The first person to report a post is the one who ends up posting the thread automatically. Anyone else who reports the same post will just have automatic posts in that report thread. It lets us sort out by urgency. If a post has been reported 5 or 6 times we know something is up.

You guys are all younger than most posters on Miniclip so the users here are more inclined to like silly things like Club Penguin prizes and role playing (and to be honest a hell of a lot nicer and more appreciative of the fun things we try and set up for you all). People here don't try to stand on the edge of the rules and see how far they can get away with things that are ALMOST against the rules and stuff like that. The only problems that we ever really have with people here are underaged users and the occasional wannabe hacker who keeps making more accounts.

The aforementioned moderator Prioritizer, The. He was given moderator status the second he joined the forums without having been here or on the old forums at all. He also lasted the shortest, as he quit only about a week into moderating, nobody knew who he was so it started to become a problem.

I personally asked him if he'd like to be a Moderator because I wanted to see how effective it would be to have a Moderator that had no bias. He wasn't friends with anyone here so he would judge people evenly. That didn't work so well.

That mess above looks like some kind of computer/peripheral debug or calibration test.

If you join the forums when you are 12 and you confess when you have already turned 13, nothing will happen to you (but the staff will NOT be happy about it).

Does your IP change every time you connect or were you using someone else's computer? You have have entered a banned IP range but apparently it is working for you now.

When I was very young. I used to like dogs when I was younger (had a family dog too) but I found more "security" I guess with reptiles. I always liked it when the guys from the zoo came to the elementary schools and let us pet the boa. I was at the front of the line, took my turn, and got in back for seconds. (Ninja emote) I honestly don't have a valid reason or a specific time frame, I would almost say I was born with it.

I think because if they were larger, it would take up more room for the server, or what ever is holding this place up from crashing, and if it was a higher KB rate for signatures, there would be a more likely chance of the forum server crashing. This is what I think, of course I'm not the Admin so I'm not 100% positive.

Why are the forum's signature limits so small?

Well it depends which limits you are talking about.

1.KB limit:

Yes this is because it makes downloading images slow for those with slower connections, pretty redundant considering aorund 98% of Miniclip users have broadband or a high speed connection, but massives sigs could slow it down. It's more server load in terms of bandwidth and perhaps capacity that are the reason for this.

2.Size limit:

Image resolutions are the way they are due to the dimensions of the forums and that's it. There's nothing too bad I think with increasing the dimesions except increasing scrolling in some cases.

I probably sound like a noob saying this, and maybe someone else said it but I didn't have the time to search through 180+ pages.

Why are the forum's signature limits so small?

Well, not a lot of people still use dialup, I believe it's estimated that only about 10 - 20% of Internet users use that, but still there are people using it, and giant images will slow their page loading times. People with slower and older computers will have a hard time scrolling through pages full of giant animations because it will lag their browser or even freeze the window.

The signature limits were actually SMALLER in the past, but they were raised just slightly to what they are today. The limits probably will not be raised again, but we still think that the sizes allowed can still make room for rather nice pictures.

Whatever happened to RFS Test Account V2.0?

PMs have been disabled for the safety of the younger users of these forums (and also so that nobody gets PM spam from those automated ad spam accounts we keep banning).

RFS why dont we have a chat box?

You can't moderator those, they wouldn't follow the same automatic vBulletin filters and things that the rest of the forum has. We don't need one.

The Aztecs were drunk at the time of the prediction.

The "special ban" that scammers and attackers on RFSHQ get (commonly known as "The Last Measure Cannon" and "The Internet Beam") is a redirect script to websites that spawn browser bombs and trojan viruses. Using that on a high-class company like Miniclip would seem pretty unscrupulous, and plus it is a modified update to the forums, we don't actually have it here.

No, most bots don't use a special IP they just use weirder emails. The only thing I can think of is a blacklist device which I think this forum has which prevents known IP addresses that are bots from spamming.

A: No, it's just because when editing a simpler version of a posting interface is set up, you can click Go Advanced and it will be the normal interface like doing a new post.

B: 3014 is a bit too far away, currently the earliest you can do it is about 1 January 1970 as that is when the Unix timestamp started. You can change the date though to anything that the database will let you. The biggest number though probably wouldn't be as much as 3014.

That was more of a thumbs down, because everyone is going to want their own forum and I'm not going to do that. It would easily fill up the screen with three pages of unsortable subforums.

I like that idea Ninja. Then we can keep all the battles in our own subforum and everything.

I guess it would kind of make it feel like you guys are encouraging for more teams because like people will want their own like you said, but ok, just a thought, thanks anyway.

What is the average amount of people banned a day?
Counting "Perma-Ban" and "Banned"

If you don't count those advertisement accounts then I would estimate probably anywhere from 2 to 5 bans each day counting both Permabans and regular bans.

Well I'm assuming you give a lot of infractions a day.

There are three admins.
There are nine moderators.[10 if you count, Mr. RFS Test Account V2.0 Robot]
There are four moderators from Miniclip.
There are five Club Penguin staff members.
There are three retired staff members.

I think that's everything.

Honestly, it's a fake account that I sometimes post with because the whole "test account" thing seemed to take a personality of its own and the users here seem to like the "forum character" they invented. I set him into the Moderator group so people can have a look at him whenever they like, although when I do test things and need a poster to test with I use that account.
