ROB (Robotic Operating Buddy) is a peripheral for the Nintendo NES. ROB interacts with a few objects (spinning gyros and colored blocks) and you can play a few games with him, namely Gyromite and Stack-Up, I'm sure you can guess which objects go with what game. :P
Really he was just ANOTHER insane invention from Nintendo and like the Power Glove and Power Pad, it didn't really catch on.

I think R.O.B. did catch on, the fact that he is in mkds as playable and that there an enemy in brawl.I think they were actually pretty nice.

I don't know if you have noticed, but Nintendo is just throwing EVERYTHING into Super Smash Bros these days because they know people will buy it. Kid Icarus was a game that was BEYOND abysmal and yet they are shoving Pit into the new game. Last time around they put Pichu as a character, this time around they are just going insane with it because they know if they fit as much stuff in there as inhumanly possible that it will sell copies. They've also been hyping the game for over a year.
Just to compare, the Super Scope 6 was an item in the last SSB, and that SNES lightgun weighed a metric ton and took something like FOUR D size batteries to use. Yeah... that didn't work either. :P
ROB is more of a cultural icon if anything.

ROB is pretty cool to play as in Mario Kart. His main kart is cool. In Awesome Video Games ROB is portrayed as an evil robot. Which is definitely not true....
PS: Thanks RFS for sorting that out for me

It appears that I've given AVG and FFSTV more fans than I have given to myself. :ban:

I do kinda see what you mean, i didn't even know who the heck people like ness, roy, and captain falcon were without ssbm, before i was thinking "Bring back mother? You guys orphans?"
the rob was probably picked for that part because they had nothing else really, how about devil gamecube controllers?Eh?

Ness was from Earthbound (Mother), which was very successful in Japan, but when it was marketed here in the States with all sorts of crazy gimmicky things like scratch and sniff cards and even a complete strategy guide that came with the game, it just did not sell. Today though, it has somewhat of a cult following because of how WEIRD the game is.
Roy was from Fire Emblem, which at the time was a Japan-only game. Because of Roy and Marth's debut in SSB:M, sales of Fire Emblem when imported to the States skyrocketed.
Captain Falcon was from F-Zero, a mildly successful racing game on the SNES.
 :D

So captain falcon just had eon game?wow.
I don't get by popular demand, they just don't make a new earthbound game. I think maybe there putting too much attention into Kirby, who's games are starting to get less good.I hope they come out with a wii Kirby soon or an new earthbound so i cna try it

All they need to do is put Earthbound on the Virtual Console. They shouldn't start making all sorts of sequels or anything, they will screw it up.

Tbh nintendo is ruining the game by putting so much stuff in...
I know all the non-nintendo characters are "cool" and will be
fun to play, but I will never say they deserve to be in there.
What is cool about SSB is that the wifi will enabale updates
for new stages and characters which will be pretty cool :)

Earthbound is rather hard to explain. Ness is a kid that has psychic powers, and then a meteor crashes at the top of a mountainous area close to where he lives, so when him and his neighbors go to investigate they are met by the character Buzz Buzz (a bee from the future) who tells them that Gigyas is using the power of time and spacial dimension travel to attempt to rule the world with his evil power.
The basically you spend the rest of the game fighting enemies like New Age Retro Hippie, Little Pile Of Barf, The Krakken, and Lil' UFO, a spaceship that shoots lasers that cause nighttime stuffiness. The entire game is full of pop culture references and is pretty weird to be honest. It's a real fun play, there's lots of parodies, references, and secrets you can do. Unfortunately if you want to buy the SNES cartridge you had better be ready to fork over up to $100. :O
