I was in Spain for 10 days and just got back last night. Had a good time, but I learned one important thing: if its clear skies and sun you want, DON'T go to Spain in October/November, because that's when they get their worst weather of the year.
I was sitting in the dark, watching a movie on TV when suddenly the room lit up, and then was dark again, followed by a deep, rumbling sound. "OMG THUNDERSTORM!!!" I thought, running upstairs into my room which led out onto a small veranda. My dad was there already. We slid open the glass doors and stepped outside, sheltered by the canopy above. Looking out, we could hardly believe the volume of water pouring down in front of us. The road below was starting to flood and water flowed off the roof like a mini waterfall. Lightning flashed again and, noticing the puddle of water gathering around our feet, we stepped back inside.
We watched the lighting for about 10 minutes, flashing across the sky, followed by the deep, angry growling of thunder, but nothing could have prepared us for what happened next. A bolt of lighting flashed down from the sky and struck one of the street lights across the road. The bulb exploded and we and everyone within a mile of us were plunged into darkness. Every couple of seconds lightning would flash again, and the neighbourhood was lit up for a moment in eerie whiteness.
Eventually, the power came back on. By this time the storm was a couple of miles away and we could hear the faint sound of thunder in the distance. I had wanted to take photos, but the camera was in our car and there was NO WAY I was going out there to get it! :P
