(10-18-7) The truth About My Feelings Toward Reptiles.

I was going to write on something completely different but because of resent happenings, and a well timed question that will have to wait till later.

Last night (technically this morning) Wallmart girl and I decided that reptile hate was back in season and that RFS has gone to far with his silly avys. Well nether of us want to go hunt reptiles down and kill them but it seemed like a great thing to unite over cause I'm always trying to 1up RFS. Well he promptly locked the thread. Many of you remember our epic battle where my name was changed to "Reptile Hater," and his to "Reptile Lover" and the giant thread that followed about it. Apparently RFS wasn't being a good sport :P

Well here is the question that was proposed:

"Do you hate reptiles in real life or is it just to joke at RFS?"

Honestly it's both. I've never been a big fan of reptiles in general (despite the user name, for more info on that read yesterdays blog). From a young age I was taught that snakes were dangerous and to be feared. There is a certain amount of intimidation in the imagery of a snake which did lead to me selecting 'Viper' as a word in my user name. I've never really thought of them as friendly or cute and there will always be a selective bias when it comes to me and reptiles in general. On the other hand RFS has come a long way in educating me on the way of the reptile and pointing out that the fears I have developed are only there because of a massive stereotype that is for the most part religiously based. But you have to admit he does go just a LITTLE overboard, right? I just try to keep him 'in check.'

Well I don't really HATE them I just don't LOVE them.

When it comes to messing with RFS about reptiles I just play the devils advocate to form a balance between approval and disapproval.

Reptiles aren't THAT bad but their not THAT good either :rolleyes:

I have never really had anything against reptiles. As long as they do not interfere with my life in a negative way, then they are fine with me. I understand that some have a fear or dislike of them, but that is just not my way

Mostly religiously based? I don't know where that came from or why all reptiles were branded as evil. The snake, sure I can see something like that, even though I think that's paranoid and a little weird. But ALL reptiles?! Turtles, crocodiles, komodo dragons, and even lizards?!!! Weird..... :confused: That sounds like hysteria to me. :rolleyes:

I'm afraid of snakes (And there is no way that I am getting anywhere near the nest of a crocodile.), sure. But I got my very healthy fear of snakes from my parents and things like National Geographic and the animal channels that say to stay away just in case one of them turns out to be venomous, especially since cottonmouths are really prevelent around here. You just never know. My grandfather was almost bitten by one once. I forgot how he managed to escape that. I'm not going to take a chance waiting to see the mouth open on what I think is a garter snake but is actually a cottonmouth. :sick:

In case anyone is wondering, yes I am "omg reptiles" in person as well, but mostly around friends. I am anti-social most of the time because I have problems speaking.

I have the opposite problem, I speak too much :P

I've probably learned more than I ever wanted to know about reptiles ever since I met Mr. Herpetologist. :rolleyes:

But I'm still going to heed the laws of nature. If something tries to kill you, you try to kill it back, no matter how cute your buddy may think it is. :cool:

OMGZ when i was litle my cousins would buy me all kinds of reptile toyz. i have so many corcadiles and lizards.i bought a komoto dragon in the wild kingdom in Florida.

I hate to be undecided but I don't mind reptiles (lizards), but I HATE snakes. I'll have some fun with a lizard, petting it, holding it, you know, but with a snake I'm quicker then you can say "Look A Snake". Up with Lizards but Down with Snakes!

Oh, and Crocodilia are just plain cool (from behind the fence) :D

Reptiles are awesome, I love all animals, i just dont have an interest in insects and anything else that has multiple legs and is very very very small that gross's people out or is harmfull in some sort of way. Or microscopic organisms.

Oh yeah and I don't like puffles, so I eat them, they actually taste like chicken with frys on the side. Great now I'm hungry.

I remember back in the day when I opened the "Wort Avy's Ever Avy Shop" those where good times, lol.

and yes I am very very sarcastic, it comes off great in person. Like today it has been REALLY windy all day. Yet walking to class i turn to people walking around me and say "It's just a little windy today, don't you think?" They find it funny and we all smile. Sarcasm is great.

If you want an Avy your gonna have to tell me a subject or something specific that you want on it, just remember that the quality of it will be low but I make them with love (and a V) :P
