Well, today I just found out that my laptop doesn't work anymore. Kind of sucks, especially when its not even a year old and you've spent a ton of cash on it. Also, now I don't have anything that I can use for what I normally do and I have to rely on others to let me use their computers.

So, basically I don't know what I'm going to do. No extended warranty, the factory warranty is over, and all of my saved files and applications are essentially gone forever unless I'm willing to pay a ton of cash so it can be fixed or if I miraculously find a way to fix it myself.

Well, recovery will be hard to do, but replacement hard drives are almost always on sale at places like Best Buy. The first time my laptop's 40GB hard drive died on me I was able to buy a new 80GB one for only about $60. I already had Windows XP installation CDs though, so I didn't have to buy the operating system. Windows XP shouldn't be too expensive now though, because Vista is out and is now being sold with computers.

Laptop hard drives are incredibly prone to failure. Yeah, it sucks, but unfortunately that's just how it goes. :(
