Well, in this thread you can basically talk about the awesomness of the game Super Mario 64. I think that the game is just basically awesome, because the levels are simple and fun to play. The whole gameplay is awesome and I also like the bugs, with which you can beat the whole game in just 20 minutes like this young man managed to do so :
http://www.spikedhumor.com/Article.aspx?id=238
I think that the graphics of the game are a bit to old and pixelrated, but at least the game was in 3D already and the sound wasn't bad either. But, if you compare the graphics of Bowser for example with the Bowser of the Nintendo DS edition, you will notice that Bowser looked like a baby bowser before.
http://nintenblog.free.fr/images/ds/comparatif_super_mario_64_DS_et_N64_bowser_2005022 5.jpg
That brings me to the Nintendo DS edition of the game. I think that game was also a great sucess with the mini-games and the multiplayer mode of the game. With the 30 bonus stars and the character switch and the good graphics the game is better than the old version. But, still without the Nintendo 64 version, there would never been the DS version.

Now, that is all I have to say about the game. And now share your opinion about Super Mario 64!

Best game ever! :D I beat it like 20 times and its really easy! But I never got all the stars. If you get all the stars, a cannon apears in the front of the castle and you can go to the roof!
On the other hand, the DS version is amazing! I rewrite of the best game ever! I love the new fetures such as multiplayer Wi-Fi changles, charectars, and touch!

One of the few great games for Nintendo 64. I remember playing it a long time ago at my friends house. It is definetly one of the best games I ever played. I just purchased this game from virtual console on Wii last week. I got pretty far.

I love this game. It was my first N64 game, and I think is currently the oldest video game in my house, since I sold my really old consoles and games. I haven't played it in awhile, but I just checked and I currently have 112 stars. I've beat the final Bowser, but I was having trouble getting the rest of the 8 stars. What happens when you get all 120?

A cannon appears outside the castle and you can fly on top of the castle's roof with it.

Great game, really took gameplay at the time to a new level. I still say the original Super Smash Bros is better.

Super Mario 64 truely sparked a new revolution in gaming bringing the wonders of 3d animation into the well mixed concoction of koopa shells and starmen accompaning the most beloved characters of our time. Honestly, this is probobly the best game to ever be released onto the classic system we have come to cherish over the years, and is the gift that keeps on giving.

I like lots of Nintendo 64 games just for all of the bizarre glitches that you can do with the 64bit cartridge... and there's a lot of them. The GameShark helped that as well. You'd be amazed how many corners people cut because they assumed certain things couldn't happen in the game.
Super Mario 64 has a lot of secrets and glitches, one of my favorites for gameplay and "bonuses". :scary:

Ah, I never really liked the Mario series. It was quite repetitive. Save the princess, she goes missing, save the princess, she goes missing, etc. Super Mario 64 is a revolutionary game though and I respect that. It showed Nintendo 64 buyers how 3D games are supposed to be made and kicked off the 3D games. Though I do miss all the good old classic beat 'em ups and platformers, you have to admit this game practically made all the rest. With help of this game and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it showed Nintendo 64's potential. I don't have the game though. I'm thinking of getting it soon. Nintendo 64 actually had a good TRIVIA game also; South Park Chef's Luv Shack. It was the only trivia game I've liked and I still play it with my best friend to this day. Ah, the Nintendo 64 generation was great. Innovative too. I miss those times...

Do you know why you go on the roof? for those who dont know, When you collect all the stars go in the cannon and get to the roof, somewhere (i dont remember where) you see yoshi and he talks to you about how you beat bowser and all that. Then he gives you 99 lives jumps off the roof and probably drowns:O (jk)

Super Mario 64 is an excellent game and I'd recommend it hands down. The only problem is that the "Classic Controller" for the Wii does the game (and all other 64 titles) absolutely no justice. Perhaps I am just accustomed to playing them on their original systems, but I just cannot get used to playing Super Mario 64, Star Fox, or Kirby 64 with that thing.

Mario 64 was probably the best game for the 64 with Orcana of Time and Starfox. It took a big chunk of my childhood away but I loved it. I love Mario Galaxy but I think Mario 64's better because of the originality and the memories.
If you want to see some true Mario 64 pwnage check this video out. :P

what about a gamecube controller, cause I don't have classic, but I got G-Cube controllers, and I know those work.

Trying to play the games on anything other than an N64 controller is just terrible. I own legal backups of my N64 games on my computer (aka ROM files) and I tried playing them with the keyboard and my PC/PS2 compatible USB controller and both of them were just way too difficult to use. I bought a special $35 USB adapter that lets me plug my N64 controller directly into my computer and use that, and things have been going perfectly. :)

That was one of the best games for the N64. It was hard though. ( I was like 6, what do you expect?) If you go on to ebay and stuff, people say its rare. Is it that rare?

No, but its popularity makes it expensive.

Don't trust what people on eBay claim, they (99% of the time) have absolutely no grasp on the difference between rarity and demand for video games and they only want to make a sale. I happen to own two copies of the game. :P Check the pinned thread in here for the link to Digital Press (www.digitpress.com) for a very helpful rarity and value guide for all consoles. Super Mario 64 was a Player's Choice/Million Seller title, there are a lot of copies in existence and they are very common. However the game was so popular it is usually in high demand so the prices may be a little higher than other games as common as it.

I loved this game when I got it, I bought it second hand and somebody already got all 120 stars, so I had a look on the file and found when you jumped in the cannon outside the castle *spoiler* It would take you to the roof of the castle where you saw yoshi, and he would bump your lives up to 99 *spoiler*. Mario and banjo kazooie games were the best for nintendo.

i love this game too. Ive got all the stars on the ds one (150). the reason the graphics are so crap is because it was one of the first proper 3d games really.

Generally when it comes to the first games on a console there is not a lot of depth or visually appealing graphics when compared to games released towards the end of the console's life. For example just take a look at pretty much every single NES game released early on, such as Super Mario Bros, Excitebike, etc. Now look at Super Mario Bros 3, Kirby's Adventure, etc - there was plenty of time for developers, Nintendo included, to unlock and showcase the full potential of the NES.
It's even evident in the Playstation 2 if you play the launch title Fantavision (amazing game by the way). It's short and basically an 8 level "LOOK AT THESE PARTICLE EFFECTS HAHA" demo, but then you look at the MASSIVE RPG games and other games featuring fully CG'ed cutscenes and such.
Super Mario 64 was a launch title on the 64 alongside Star Fox 64, Pilotwings 64, and Wave Race 64 (nice naming scheme). Towards the end of the console we ended up with brilliant ports of Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem and also original titles like Quest 64 and Yoshi's Story.
