THIS SHOULD SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS TO CONNECTION ERRORS (including bans)

This guide will tell you:
-How certain connection errors occur
-How to get around them/fix them
-What to do if you are ever put in a situation like this

As many of you know, when the Club Penguin Team (usually Billybob) does updates, you cannot connect to Club Penguin and sometimes there are glitches and bugs that cause connection errors. Well, we all are very aware when these times occur, so we do not all need to post about this.

Instead of posting about your problems, here is how you can fix/get around them. Below, I have posted 4 scenarios in which you would have a connection error and how to fix/get around them.

SENARIO 1 - THE DAY BEFORE AND THE DAY OF A NEW CATALOG, PIN, GAME, OR PARTY
If you have connection error that occurs the day before or the day of a new catalog, pin, game, or party, then its probably because of updates. In order to do updates, the Club Penguin team has to temporarily take the game offline. It takes about 10 minutes or so for the game to be brought back online and working. Sometimes on the day of the new catalog, pin, game, or party, the CP Team updaters find a problem and have to go fix it, therefore once again taking it offline.
Edit by Pendragon: Club Penguin does not actually go offline for updates. We've changed it to reduce downtime. You may encounter very slow connection or inability to connect depending on server traffic.

The only way around this is to wait 10 minutes and/or download the latest Flash or shockwave version. The CP Team sometimes updates the game and requires you to use the newest Flash Player available. Even if you don't want to, you might have to.
Edit by Pendragon: If you encounter problems loading specific aspects of the game, such as the map or certain rooms, please ensure you are using the newest version of Adobe Flash Player (version 10 is currently the newest).

SENARIO 2- ITS JUST NOT WORKING... AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO UPDATES
"A firewall on your network may be blocking your connection. Please ask your network administrator or ISP to open ports 9875 and 3724 (for TCP traffic, both inbound and outbound) which are used by Club Penguin." Quote from ClubPenguin.com
Edit by Pendragon: Please ensure you have access to the following ports:

- 9875
- 6112
- 3724
- 6113
- 9339 (for TCP traffic, both Inbound and Outbound)

If that does not work, try one of these three options (depending on your web browser):

To do this in Internet-Explorer
1) Point at the ''tools'' menu
2) Select ''internet options''
3) Click the button to delete your temporary internet files

To do this in Firefox
1) Point at the 'tools' menu
2) Select 'options'
3) Select 'privacy'
4) Click the Clear button for cache

/11.20,06/*UPDATE* (according to Copass)
1) Tools
2) Clear Private Data {Ctrl+Shift+Del}

To do this in Safari
1) Click the 'Safari' menu
2) Click 'Empty Cache'

Once you have done this, refresh your page and try again

Also, some people have a 56kpbs modem which is slow, but a 2mb is recommended because its a rather fast modem. This may make it appear that you lost connection because it won't load. Also, if your modem is slow and you have more than four penguins saved in the login screen, when you play club penguin it will make it slow. (Tip from Bluecool)

SENARIO 3 - I HAVE BEEN BANNED
Well, if you have been banned, you have these options:

1. Contact the Club Penguin Support Team
2. Wait until the ban is lifted

SENARIO 4 - LOSING CONNECTION

This problem is usually caused from playing Club Penguin on a slow computer, or from a weak Internet connection between your computer and the Club Penguin server. Even if you're using a relatively fast computer connected using a relatively fast connection it's still possible that one of the machines on the route from the Club Penguin to you isn't up to the task, and so you might get poor performance sometimes.

To reduce the problem you can try:

-Closing any unnecessary software.
-Don't try playing Club Penguin while downloading files or swapping music, this will slow your connection.
-Try playing at a different time of day when the Internet is quieter and the various routers across the Internet aren't overloaded.
-Try playing from a faster computer.
-Try playing from a different ISP (Internet Service Provider)
- Changing to a different Club Penguin server because sometimes the full servers cause lag and sometimes you lose connection from that lag. (Tip from Bluecool)
-Make sure you have enough disk space so you can play club penguin (Tip from Bluecool)
-If you have a laptop and close the screen while logged on to Club Penguin and open the screen again, it says that the connection was lost. So don't leave Club Penguin running and close the laptop! (TIP from Derfinklebur)
Edit by Pendragon: For those users who are using a dialup connection (56kbps or slower), your connection to the game will be much slower then someone using Cable or DSL. The only way to speed up your connection will be to log onto less populated servers (those with less than 3 happy faces). If you encounter a loading error, please clear your cache before attempting to connect again, this will remove any files that may not have loaded properly due to disconnection.

From Pendragon: Thank you Balthasar for the wonderful guideline. I hope you don't mind that I've added information to it.

That will probily be something to do with your computer, maybe you went to find a file in WINDOWS or Program Files and deleted it by mistake? Or you have a virus

Well, if you have been banned, you have these options:

1. Contact the Club Penguin Support Team
2. Wait until the ban is lifted

been permanantly banned for my mate when i was out downloading a software to hack my account, i never gonna trust him now!

I recomend to people using dial up its time for a new broadband!

So, what happens after 5 minutes? Is there an error message of some sort or does it just log you out? Anyway, I think the best thing to do is to contact the Club Penguin support team and see what they have to say. ;)

Now on Firefox it may say "Clear private data" rather than "Clear cache". I hope this may help. I couldn't figure it out for a while.

I just downloaded IE7 and it gives me the,"Was not able to connect to server" message, and I tried it on Mozilla Firefox, and it worked. What's the problem? I tried all suggestions on the first post.

I am not sure if this was mentioned but in case not, you will notice when a rare event occurs (I am really talking about Rockhopper's arrival) a lot of the time the server doesn't load or you get a message saying something like 'unable to connect to the server'. It's because EVERYONE'S on and the servers are too crowded. This may seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people do not know this.

You should mention that sometimes the problem might be with the server-caching of the ISP, which means your ISP's cache has old files of CP and this makes your computer upload the files while you log on. In order to solve this you can contact your ISP or wait for the server cache to automatically clear istelf.

There's direction in this guide on how to clear your Cache manually, as well as ISP information.
