Ever gotten confused New to Game Maker? Dont know when you did something wrong? Well Hopefully this guide will give you the Answers:

Global Gaming Settings:
Here you can change the info on your game. Like the icon, Game Loader. And the properties of your game. Changing the Icon is really simple you click the change icon button and it will open up a borwsing box, Browse through your files until you find a icon file also known as a .ico file you cannot use a normal picture as these are not accepted.

Game Information:
The game information. You can describe your game. Add controls and anything you can really think of. This is really important for you game. And could use with alot of detail.

Describing you game:
Describing you game is really hard. And is pretty important before anybody downloads the game you would need to have some mirrors, Screenshots and how much file size and just somre more info. I would not want to play a game with a poor description.

Planning your game:
Planning your game is really important. You can say yep im gonna finiosh this game in a week and then you get to the end of the week and only have done 5% of it. I would recommend this program to plan your game:
http://www.pnotepad.org/

Dictionary:

Sprite:
A Sprite is a graphics that you use to place in your game. Sprites should be in PNG format if you want high quality look images. Sprites are an important part in your game. Sprites are usaully a important part of your game. One of the most Important if i would say.

Object:
With an Object you can select the sprite you would like to use with your game. You can also add Actions and Events to make your game function. This is one of the most important parts of your game.

Rooms:
Rooms are the Scenes you have in your game. You would you lots of these if you game was a big game.

Scripts:
The Scripts you would use if you were making a fantastic game. There codes to get your game preparing for action. Getting these codes takes patience. GML/Scripts/Codes are pretty easy to get the hang of once you look at all the Codes.

Paths:
Paths are making a penguin, puffle or a pet move without you controling it click the little white box with the blue tab on the top and select the room you would like and then draw the path then. Now create an object now click on the side the little tabs Move then click on the blue arrow under the section pats and drag it to the actions box. Now select the path you would like to use.

Fonts:
These will be the Fonts you will be using in your game. Try and use a good font or download some from http://www.dafont.com/ <the best place for fonts.

Backgrounds:
The Backgrounds are what you use in the game. For the rooms. You do not have to have one of these you could just have lots of objects to fill up the room.

Tile Sets:
Tile Sets are Backgrounds like a picture with squares throughout it all. You can use a tile set by. Using it as a background. In its Properties there should be a check box that says "Use as Tile Set" tick that box. Now click ok and view a room. Then click the tiles tab and then select the tile you would like to add into it.

How to keep track of your game?:
I recommend downloading Programmers Notepad. Which you can hold notes, Scripts and little bites and pieces.

Where do i download Gamemaker?
You can download game maker here for free:
http://snipr.com/1ndwt

You dont know where to upload your game?
Well dont you worry. You can upload files to a majority of Websites. If you have a Freewebs account you can make a direct download link. Or you could sign up for an account on Putfile, FileFront, Will Hsot for food and many many others.

Getting an orginal name?
Making up a name is hard. Finding/Making a game name is the most important part of your game. Have a catchy name, you get lots of people to play your game. Try thinking of what satnds out in your game and work from that.

What makes a good game?
Its hard to say what makes a good game, Usauly its the Game Play, Story Line, Music and Graphics. And thats what other people find interesting to. And also i would have to say MINIGAMES! thats probaly the best part of the game the little things that spice the game up, add that special little touch. Make good minigames and people will love your game

Music/Sounds
Sounds and Music is a tough one. You can find lots of Music making software out there like:
Audacity
Garbage Band
and lots lots more.
What i find nice is getting a real band to play the music. Dont go stealing music from other games. Have a fidle with some of the programs and you might even make some Awesome music just as good as club penguins!

Buying Game Maker:
I would have to say before you buy game maker is to master it and understand it. When you but game maker its a one off fee of $20.00 USD. Which you can then pay for newer versions for free if you have upgraded an old version. Some of the Features on buying game maker is:
Making a multiplayer (Gosh its hard have to be experienced)
Making a game 3d (Pretty easy once you get the hang of it)
No stupid made with game maker box while your game loads!
More actions available.
And so much more
Click here to buy game maker:

GUIDE TO GML/Scripts:
To use a code click on the control tab on the object you want to use the script with and select the white piece of paper and drag it to the actions box and then you shouladd a script like the following ones:

GML stands for Game Maker Language, heres some scripts you can add to your game to use thes :
Whereever it says (Background),(insert name of penguin sprite here) add the name of the sprite/background you would like to use for it:
Messages:
show_message(Add the message text you would like to show here) Displays a message replace the text between the () to what you like.

message_background(Put the background name of the background here) Displays a message and adds the background replace the text between the () to the background name.

message_button() Displays a message with the button and replaces the normal button with that sprite button. between the () change it to the sprite of the button.

Guide to Extensions
Extensions are extending the posibilities of game maker. They can add a set of actions, or it adds a additional things to GML. More will be added soon!

The Graphics and Gameplay:
You would need to get graphics/Pictures for your games graphics include the penguins, Rooms etc etc. I do not enjoy playing a game with really bad graphics so get someone or make your own really good penguins. Dont have a graphics program? then just go here for a list of graphics programs: http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=281 (http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=281)
Please just before you think yeah i got the whole entire game maker thing figured out and off you go creating a game everyone excited then splat you dont where you went wrong or you dont know how to make the game. And yes this isnt one of them really boring guide with hardly any content.

Viruses:
Remeber to Virus check you game before releasing it to the public i would hate to download a game and have a million viruses flowing through out my computer.

Thanks i hope this guide helped all you people who are like what the? I will update all the guide day-by-day so check back for updates!

Yo, great guide, but I need help with something, umm, a little more experience, maybe you can help.

It's for an inventory system, I need something for when you buy something, and it goes to your inventory, but there is already an item in that space, and it goes 32 pixels to the left. Sorry if it sounds confusing.

BTW. I didn't know about the Message Backround, thanks.:)

The guide isn't that great. It starts off with random information, and chances are, people aren't going to know how to use that information, because they might not even know what rooms and objects are.

The guide is short, and is basically a smaller version of the Game Maker Help File.

I'm sure with a lot of work it could become something helpful, however.

Also, Harods made a thread that's way more informative, and you copied it! Go here people, for a WAY more helpful guide:http://penguinforum.miniclip.com/showthread.php?t=16908

:!: THE NEW SOLUTION TO SAYING THIS THREAD IS NOT COMPLETE HAS ARRIVED:

It's called finish it before you post it, any reason about why saving it on notepad then completing and posting it is a bad idea?

Can I also point out how many great guides and tutorial there already are on the Internet for Gamer Maker already?

Anyone who wants to produce a quality fan game will be bothered to read them. Game Maker is totally simple though ( even compared to some short 200 line codes).

It doest really you could maybe ask someone at the gmc

you add the code into the code box and where ever you put show this message add the script underneath it and say the background you want the message to be in the script where it says.
